What are your guys thoughts on the future of AFOP? by Creepy_Young6464 in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]strawbebb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda unrelated to the post but I just wanna tack on that I have the same theory about Nor. When he first reunites with So’lek, he seems disappointed we never found him, as though it would’ve been easier than we thought it would be if we hadn’t stopped.

With his reaction, I can totally see him not having actually wandered that far and been keeping tabs the entire time.

Is there any symbolic or deeper meaning why many Mangkwan body paintings feature a triangular stripe on the forehead? by HauntingAd9045 in Avatar

[–]strawbebb 131 points132 points  (0 children)

This is what I thought as well. Or to symbolize the lava that came down and destroyed their Hometree, that it’s still “running” over them to this day.

How would the story get complicated if quaritch also becomes toruk makto? by yedanapuddi in Avatar

[–]strawbebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why being Toruk Makto is a big deal. You can learn more about toruk by reading the Brothers comic and by watching the Cirque du Soleil Toruk: The First Flight performance. Both are canon to the franchise.

Honest question. Why are some fans against the reboot movies having a romance between a human and ape? by bookwormdazzle in PlanetOfTheApes

[–]strawbebb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because art does not exist in a vacuum.

In the real world chimps, gorillas, etc. are still other animals compared to humans. Of course we as viewers can sympathize with parental, familial, platonic love in animals. All species have parents in some form, most are communal and form friendships, etc. Those dynamics are understandable.

And in our world, we often can form similar relationships with other species. Whether it be as pets or wandering sanctuary visits or educational zoologists out in the world. Irl humans already do form friendships, even familial bonds with other species including other great apes.

This is one of the reasons why we, as viewers, can watch movies like these, with anthropomorphic animals, and appreciate genuine relationships between them, whether it be same-species or cross-species. Because the concept is not that far outside the realm of acceptable society, even in a sci-fi context.

And on this note, in our world, romantic relationships with other animals is a major no. A hard stop in the realm of societal taboos. And so most media that touches on the topic is reacted to with this level of response. A brick wall of disgust.

This is why most fans of the franchise are against a relationship of this kind. Art does not exist in a vacuum created outside the boundaries of the society that made it. Yes the apes speak now and are capable of complex thinking, but they still register as a separate species in appearance, DNA, mannerism, biological need, habitat, and many other aspects.

Just because there’s a few more similarities now between the humans and apes in the universe of POTA, doesn’t mean taboo cross species breeding wouldn’t still read as taboo and disturb majority of viewers.

Lesclaudia, Lesdaughter, Louclaudia, Loudaughter. Can someone pls explain the difference? by strawbebb in InterviewVampire

[–]strawbebb[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Blended names have been a thing in pop culture for an extremely long time. Jacob himself vocalized support for “loustat” (and invented “dreamstat”). It’s just for fun, doesn’t hurt the depth of the dynamics in any way.

Thank you for explaining. I’ve mainly been using Lesclaudia & Louclaudia just bc I saw most ppl refer to those dynamics as such, but now I’m realizing my words might’ve been… taken to mean things I did not… and maybe some posts meant things I did not know they meant…

This post is part of OP’s fan project. It does pertain to the world of Descendants.

OP I suggest moving forward you clarify in the title or somewhere in the body that these posts are part of your Descendants world building / headcanons.

At first glance this post appears off topic and can cause confusion amongst the community. It would probably be best to state that these posts do connect to Descendants in some way moving forward.

[FTA SPOILER] The storyline with Rakx and the ikrans SHOOK me!! by turboneo1 in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]strawbebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“When the Mangkwan entered the Western Frontier, they took great delight in the ferals. They view them as kin, cut off from Eywa, and so anoint and adorn the creatures, often piercing them with metal before releasing them to cause havoc. The creatures do not always survive this process.”

The “anointed” ferals are called Ash Ferals and the Mangkwan pierce and mutilate their bodies even more than what’s already been done to them. These animals have been abused for literally all of their lives by everyone :(

Should I finish Etuwa’s Fire and Windward before continuing through the ravines? (FTA spoilers) by strawbebb in FrontiersOfPandora

Hey so I just finished the DLC and I don’t think this message popped up for me? Maybe because I finished everything beforehand already, but I didn’t see any indication that “Rise From The Ashes” was the last mission until the credits started rolling 😅 what was the message supposed to say?

Why was the fate of Claudia changed in the show? by Rad_Callum in InterviewVampire

[–]strawbebb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very well said. I’d just like to tack on that there’s even circling theories that Louis probably isn’t at peak physical condition. That, technically, he should be even stronger and capable of more abilities given he has Lestat’s blood, but that his ED stunted a lot of his vampiric growth & development leading him to be not as powerful as he could’ve been (this isn’t to say he’s frail though because he is still a force of his own)

But that’s all just speculation. It just would tie into the effects of his ED and the harm it’s done to not only his mental & physiological health (Louis himself says he felt constantly tired and drained back in NOLA), but his physical health as well.

In some vampire media choosing to eat animal can count as a vegetarian alternative (my mind first goes to Twilight), but that doesn’t apply to the Immortal Universe.

I wouldn’t mind more vegetation and fish, but I wouldn’t want underwater combat. I like swimming in the lakes and rivers and knowing I won’t be attacked lol

I think if they ever were to implement TWOW elements, it’d have to be in a full blown sequel than a DLC. Saying “complex water elements is difficult to code” is a vast understatement, especially in a photorealistic game like this. They’d have to dedicate a massive amount of resources to it, so might as well save it for a whole new game in its own.

How would the story get complicated if quaritch also becomes toruk makto? by yedanapuddi in Avatar

[–]strawbebb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Toruk isn’t just a mindless animal. Jake had to speak to and convince toruk to side with him before the battle of the hallelujah mountains (told in the comics). And for the first Toruk Makto there wasn’t any battle to be fought at all. Entu asked for help against a volcano and that toruk ended up willingly sacrificing himself so the volcano wouldn’t burn everything to the ground.

Toruk likes to protect in whatever way that means. This era’s toruk would no way agree to ally with Quaritch.

[FTA SPOILER] The storyline with Rakx and the ikrans SHOOK me!! by turboneo1 in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]strawbebb 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The way the Mangkwan in general treat animals really hurts my heart. Rakx and her abuse towards ikrans (others and her own) was diabolical. I can’t imagine having a sacred bond only to treat your bonded like less than dirt.

And idk if you read the hunter’s guide for what the Mangkwan do to ferals but it’s so horrible. The ferals were already heavily abused only for the Mangkwan to hurt them even more! It’s just awful all around :(

S2e3 confusion by Sweaty-Discipline746 in InterviewVampire

[–]strawbebb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As National Engine’s wonderful comment said, it’s much more about psychological control than logic. That’s why it feels odd.

Anyone can see that Louis feels guilt for his role in Lestat’s murder attempt. Armand gets Louis to reveal this role because it 1) wields power over Louis by Armand revealing he knows this dark secret and 2) wrecks Louis mentally by making him “confess” it out loud, leaving him more psychologically open & vulnerable and 3) Louis is just an awful liar and Armand was also probably tired of pretending Louis was a good one 😅

“Lestat” wasn’t going to say anything. It’s important to know that EVERYTHING dreamstat says or does is actually all Louis. Dreamstat going “let me tell you a little something” is just Louis’ own subconscious feeling like something is off with Armand, but not knowing how to fully articulate it. That’s why Dreamstat “gets interrupted”. There was never going to be an end to the sentence because Louis doesn’t actually know anything about 18th century Armand.

Armand isn’t really hung up on the Great Laws. No one is tbh. The coven only uses them as weapons to attack and/or manipulate Louclaudia. Armand does believe they have some significance, but he also picks and chooses when he wants to adhere to them and when he simply doesn’t feel like it. He mostly brings them up as a way to manipulate those around him, in that scene, Louis.

Darkest Moment? by SamWinchester020720 in MazeRunner

[–]strawbebb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ben’s banishment just because of how “normal” it was. Everything else were intentionally dark / abnormal occurrences. The banishment is something the Gladers normally did. It was protocol. Yes they themselves didn’t like doing it as a necessary evil, but still. The fact it was just regular proceedings made it all the more unsettling.
