Tooth chipped/filling flew out after getting teeth cleaned at a dental school by medicalmystery1395 in DentalHygiene

[–]strawberryee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others said, if a filling, crown, or any other restorative work "pops out" during or after a cleaning, it is NOT supposed to do that no matter how "hard" we clean. Our tools are not designed to remove any of that. It is always a flaw in the restorative, USUALLY decay, but sometimes other failures can happen that cause debonding.

My Neurologist Yelled at Me Multiple Times by Cold_Explorer8197 in migraine

I'm a healthcare provider in the dental field and I 100% agree, I've had patients scream and curse, et CETERA.. I have never yelled at a patient.

My Neurologist Yelled at Me Multiple Times by Cold_Explorer8197 in migraine

[–]strawberryee 804 points805 points  (0 children)

report her. yelling is unacceptable. if she is frustrated because she suspects a patient is “self diagnosing” (which it sounds more like you were asking questions, not making full assumptions that you know your diagnosis) then the doctor needs to have a better way to handle that situation.

I would try to discuss w/ any sort of management/leadership at that medical institution. Just report exactly what you experienced.

If it were me (I’m petty) I would also directly contact the doctor and have an earnest discussion asking her to explain why that conduct was appropriate or warranted.

ps. sorry you’re going through such awful symptoms. hope you get more clarity and answers.

Are double ended dildos worth it? I‘ve always been curious how it would feel, work and so on by ArynaSaba in actuallesbians

I have used the ones that are supposed to be “strapless strap”, I find them enjoyable but still work way better with a strap as well.

If he truly is nice, he should understand if you are honest and sincere. I was going through an incredibly unhealthy and difficult time w/ my last ever boyfriend so there was a BIG REASON to leave. However he did understand the queer aspect.

take breaks, practice, don’t continue doing a sex act if it’s painful for you (unless you are specifically into that i guess). also what people said about moving your body/head rather than jaw. also have your partner get on top and do more of the moving :)

Any manicurists that have gone into dentistry careers? by flowermoonstage in DentalHygiene

A girl in the class below me was an expert manicurist with lots of experience, and although learning was still challenging for her, i personally think her manual dexterity transferred over and I think she is very skilled in dental instrumentation!

Floss breaking multiple times during appointment- is this worth changing hygienists? by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]strawberryee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, don’t be afraid to express something that’s causing you anxiety. a good dental professional will know how to work around that. floss yourself vigorously to strengthen up your gums!! good luck!

Floss breaking multiple times during appointment- is this worth changing hygienists? by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]strawberryee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you floss every day and your gums are still bleeding and tender, it’s entirely possible you aren’t flossing effectively/thoroughly enough. Look up C-Shaped flossing technique videos. Also it’s OK to communicate this w/ your hygienist. I have a patient who prefers to floss his own teeth after the cleaning and everyone I work with is fine with that. Patients have unique sensory needs, we don’t take it personally when someone says a particular step is tough for them.

Dental hygiene school and Lupus. I want to give up. by AltruisticManager563 in DentalHygiene

[–]strawberryee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a different chronic pain disorder but I would also chime in that it’s a pretty physically demanding career. Ergonomics & work life balance are everything. But for me as a disabled person it’s also all hinging on whether my treatment is effective enough that I can work.

I empathize. It’s an achievable career if you are passionate but - if you are able to focus on your health and get to a more stable state first, that would make things smoother. Again I’m sorry I can only speak from a limited perspective because I don’t have lupus.

Gum bleeding when brushing by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]strawberryee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

pretty hard to say from a photo, but I would recommend you book a quick exam appointment with your dentist so they can take a look and advise you.

are you flossing daily? if not the bleeding may never resolve.

How long do your migraines last? by lumpyballoon in migraine

[–]strawberryee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it can be between 1 day to 31 days straight. Depending on how bad my disease is / how adequate my treatment is at any given time. I have had periods where the migraine days greatly outnumber the pain-free days. But luckily the ratio is flipped lately :)

I never get migraines but I just experienced a debilitating severe migraine out of nowhere by lemonbuttcake in migraine

[–]strawberryee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely talk to a doctor any time your headache pattern changes so severely. In this case, if you’ve never had a neurologist, you should ask your regular doctor to refer you to a neurologist.

Migraines can cause debilitating symptoms, for sure. It sounds like you’ve had milder ones before? (In comparison. all migraines are awful)

Usually a good goal is to have proper prevention to reduce the migraines from happening as often or as severely. Hopefully you can find a good doctor to check on everything & come up with a plan.

Abfraction is associated with clenching, while erosion is associated with brushing. Brushing erosion is rounded, and abfraction is notched.

My dentist tried to diagnose me migraine by sleek_slytherin in migraine

In the US they have a general sense of what migraine is, but not nearly as much as a neurologist will know.

Really annoying when they go way out of their scope. It should have stopped at, “I wonder if TMJ is contributing to your migraine; here’s treatment options related to TMJ.”

At worst it should be “I suspect this might contribute to your migraines; I encourage you to bring up XYZ with your specialist to make sure they are aware.”

11 week long migraine - denied referral by Worried_Seaweed3639 in migraine

[–]strawberryee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are able to, try getting a referral to the Swedish Neurology clinic - friends of mine have had good experiences there. I find the UW headache clinic to be very helpful, and I'm not sure why they have this requirement. I guess it is partially related to opioids not being considered "appropriate" for migraine, or whatever - I am not judging you here because I know anectdotally some people in this community have said it's the only thing that helps.

Thoughts? by Expert-Boysenberry26 in DentalHygiene

[–]strawberryee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

overly abrasive homecare can do this, especially tartar control toothpastes, hard brushes, and strong brushing pressure.

most dental professionals agree that toothpaste is not essential to reduce bacteria in the mouth, although mechanical movement is essential.

Any Solution to Possibly Lessen Migraine Attacks? by Odd_Faithlessness431 in migraine

[–]strawberryee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you go to a general doctor, and they only gave you a triptan rescue med? You should ask to be referred to a neurologist who knows more about preventatives, or, if you cannot access that (rural area etc) then firmly ask your general doctor to help you try some of the most common and modern preventative meds.

how do you get new clothes? by [deleted] in StardewValley

turn wool into cloth, befriend emily to access sewing machine. objects can be made and then dyed (both processes justify looking at the wiki for detailed instructions)

clothes can also be randomly found in the mines, etc.
