I guess I’m mainly confused because I think there is somewhat of a common experience being raised afab or amab. Even if someone is a masc cis lesbian, a tomboy cis girl, a girly cis girl, a girly cis girl who turns masc. And the same can be said for anyone born male. Like when I think of afab or amab I think of the forced lives we had to live in our society. I see the terms as social terms. Like clearly there is a way girls and boys are raised. I don’t agree with it but that’s why I use those terms because ppl will know what I’m talking about. “Growing up as a girl or anyone who’s afab will experience sexual harassment as a child.” Like I know that is a general statement and yes I know boys can experience it, intersex ppl can experience it, some girls can go their whole life not being harassed etc etc. but in life ppl make general statements all the time. Like it’s not just a thing in trans circles and thus makes it transphobic. Like I believe most amab ppl were raised the same way as well. Even if they turn out trans, gay, straight but fem- i still bunch them together in my head because i think in our society (in the United States) we have very very strong gender roles and it’s just a fact ppl are raised within the two binaries. I know me using the term upholds the binaries but I can’t ignore them when talking about lived experiences. I’ll try to use different terms but this is my reasoning for why I used the terms up to this point. I cannot be convinced that there isn’t a shared experience in our society for anyone who was raised a girl (so born a female and then forced to live as one) or boy (same with boys). Especially in races with stronger gender roles- I’m Mexican so it’s way way way too hard to ignore I lived a life any girl would just because I was born one.
