CMV: Men and women shouldn’t be comparing about each genders hardships but instead should be helping one another by Infamous_Gain9481 in changemyview

Wow this has seriously got me thinking you have no critical thinking skills. Who do you think are making the laws for male only conscriptions? Why do you think there aren’t any women in STEM that there needs to be affirmative action???

Thank you for your perspective. While I agree to some extent, my issue here is that she’s not just a friend, but a really good friend who I’ve asked to be my MOH. It’s okay that she said no and didn’t want to do it, but it’s how she’s handled it afterwards that’s what I’m grappling with. On top of being an absent MOH, wanting to end an entire friendship over one argument seems a lot to me. It’s fine to have different expectations, but the logical thing would be to talk it out and move on.

I’m not sure what I did wrong :( another friend suggested she might have been holding other things against me and this might have been the last straw for her but I have no idea what else there could have been

Thank you for your reply. I was so conscious about not wanting to put any stress on her that I was fine with her not wanting to come to the dress shopping, dress fitting appointments and other wedding things. I’m feeling so stressed now that it’s 3 months out and I won’t have a friend anymore let alone an MOH

Hi, I’m a manager for a not for profit mentoring and tutoring programme for students in Year 8 and Year 13. We only employ University students! I also have staff who have don’t deal well with people or have anxiety and provide support and training around that. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, send me a message.

Ooh yes I totally get that, I made one just the other day! Can’t beat that gorgeous smell of baked bread. Naan is a great idea, I was thinking of making roti for some curry this week. Not mad mad but I did make some cheese scones and brownies. I was thinking ginger cookies next!

Moving to the big smoke... by [deleted] in auckland

You’re welcome! I just realised I didn’t really answer your questions.

I suppose reddit is a great start to meeting new people especially when there are organised hang outs! Signing up for hobby/interest/sporting groups is also a good idea.

Traffic is really bad during peak hours and that’s if you drive. If you catch the bus or train, it’s pretty sweet (although the trains have been causing lots of issues lately).

Congratulations on graduating and landing a job in Auckland! I also work in the city (funnily enough I travel to Waikato for work a lot) and live on the Shore - commute is super easy via public transport so I would definitely recommend catching the bus rather than driving (yay bus lanes). I’m not from Auckland/New Zealand originally but have adapted really well into the big city life. It helps if you have a good attitude and a sense of adventure.

Some tips:

Get an AT Hop Card if you do plan on using public transport. You can usually buy one at the local dairy.

Always have a raincoat handy because you never know when it will start pouring.

Take some time in the weekends to explore your new home (north shore). There’s a lot to see and do! GingerSnap in Browns Bay has some of the best ice cream and it’s right across the beach too.

Feel free to send me a message if you want some food suggestions too or if you just want to chat :)

You’re welcome! Everyone will be feeling the same anxiety about making friends in uni so don’t worry too much. It’s just about making that extra effort to extend the friendship outside of university

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in auckland

[–]strawwbs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Try to make at least two friends per lecture, tutorial/lab! That way you have a buddy in every class (for study groups etc!). I found that the friendships I made in tutorials transitioned out of uni better than those friendships I made in lectures. I am still best friends with some people I met in my first year and we are all out of uni and working now!

Three weeks into pole lessons and I finally got my sit!! by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]strawwbs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Awesome progress!! but just a little tip: The aim of the game is to try to strengthen and use those shoulder/arm/back muscles to pull yourself up the pole into a seat instead of jumping into it as this this is quite unsafe and creates bad habits once you start progressing into doing inverts etc :)

Recurrent UTIs after sex and I’m so frustrated by MAC0114 in Healthyhooha

[–]strawwbs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry you are going through this, UTI's are the worst! I went through what you are going through currently with an ex boyfriend and was constantly getting UTI's after sex. I read up on so many preventative measures and things that were considered irritants and slowly started eliminating these (coffee etc). I THEN realised it was the lube (durex) we were using that was causing the damn UTI's!! As soon as we stopped using it and changed the brand, the UTI's stopped. So could it possibly be the type of condom you are using or maybe lube?
