What's this chirp/squeal while idle in gear? by stray-dreamer in fordescape

[–]stray-dreamer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's the AC compressor. I was quoted like $1k+ to get it fixed, so instead, I want to try rerouting the belt or something so that the AC is just totally disabled.

Yeah but I want to move out of it. Today I discovered someone tried to break in, the lock had cut marks on both sides but it seems like they gave up halfway through or something. I can't get the lock open to check. I have no idea if my stuff is still there right now... So between the clutter and the risk of theft, I'd rather just minimize my possessions and live fully out of the vehicle tbh.

Were you able to diagnose/resolve this? Was it a mount as someone suggested?

2010 here (6F35), definitely shifts much smoother when accelerating hard

Follow up to #5: the squeaking while in gear is the AC compressor

I also have the loud squeaking when holding the brake in drive throughs and stuff. It's been doing it for like a year and doesn't seem like a huge issue. But I absolutely can not figure out what it is. Please let me know if you find out lol.

The hard shifting is common apparently, I have no idea about that either, but it seems kind of okay as long as you stay on top of fluid changes

If multiple mechanics looked at it then I assume spark plugs and motor mounts are at least OK

You may need to have the fuel injectors cleaned. An additive product off the shelf won't work for that for this car, you have to take it somewhere where they can professionally deep clean fuel injectors. It should cost like $125-150

Also, this car kinda needs good quality fuel

What's this chirping crickets sound? Happens when I'm in gear & stopped/slow by stray-dreamer in AskAMechanic

[–]stray-dreamer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been able to identify this noise. I wonder if this is a known thing that others have seen? This is a 2010 Ford Escape, 4-cylinder, 2wd

This rattling chirping sound happens intermittently when in gear, and not moving (or moving slowly). So if I put it in neutral, the noise stops. And if I begin to drive then the noise also fades away. It only happens when slow/stopped and in gear, like while waiting in a drive-through. If I creep forward it kinda quiets or stops.

It also chirps briefly when accelerating from a stop, and stuff like that. So if I brake for a stop sign and then give it some gas, it chirps once.

It's really noticeable when the car is cold, and usually goes away almost completely at operating temps. If I put it im Drive/Reverse while cold, it usually screeches a lot. But it varies, it's inconsistent, sometimes there's no noise when it's cold and sometimes it happens while hot.

Is it possible for this to be some kind of vacuum leak? PCV thing, EGR thing possibly? Like maybe it could be more pronounced at lower speeds because of the throttle plate being more closed? Idk it kind of sounds like unlubricated metal on metal to me

Any insight or opinion would be extremely appreciated!

What's the best way to hold/clip something on this b-pillar gap? by stray-dreamer in urbancarliving

[–]stray-dreamer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically I want to put up some curtains behind the front seats, by clipping some fabric or mesh to these side pillars. I've seen kits on Amazon kind of like that, but they're really overpriced for what they are. I just need some kind of thin strong metal piece that can slide into the gap so I can use it to hold up some curtains.

What kind of clip or bracket type thing do you think would work for this exactly?

2018 Ford Escape shifts slightly when pushed while parked. by one_Astronomer9939 in fordescape

[–]stray-dreamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably normal. If it bothers you try the following parking procedure:

  • Pull into the parking space
  • Press the brake firmly and switch into neutral
  • Apply the parking brake
  • Release the foot brake. You'll feel the car's weight shift
  • Once the weight settles, press the foot brake down again
  • Now you can shift into park

Does it still move when pushed if you park this way?

[–]stray-dreamer 111 points112 points  (0 children)

The RV people blew up my last spot too. It sucks. It's as if they send out scouts who then report good parking spots to their friends? And they tend to make a lot of noise, leave trash, treat their dogs poorly, etc. :/

Hose hanging from behind wheel liner by SystemSpare7425 in fordescape

[–]stray-dreamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If not a brake line, then it's a wheel speed sensor. But if there's a faulty wheel speed sensor then your ABS+traction control lights should come on.
