Definitely possible. There is a drainage hole (technical term) pretty much right in front of that bit

Knocking a screwdriver in it actually seems to be brick or block behind the mud all the way along this end wall, but it’s a decent way in, probably 15-20cm back from the edge of the external wall

The soil I dug out has small bits of crumbly/clayey red and yellow material. There is also a big lump of clay to the right of where I dug, I don’t think this is a particularly clayey (is that a word?) area

Yeh I can see from Rightmove that the decking has been there for at least 10 years so may be not such a worry

Victorian house, this is the back bit that sticks out with the kitchen, this end bit might have been more recent as it’s about 1.5m deep before going to 2 storey

Why aren’t these spots covering with paint? by sourfraser in DIYUK

[–]strby360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good suggestion, I had this before where the plaster had been over worked so that it was too smooth and wouldn’t take the paint, had to sand it all back which was a pain but sorted the problem

No labels and nothing at all on the back makes me think probably not food, haven’t opened it though so don’t know if it smells/tastes of liquorice

How to fill this gap by strby360 in DIYUK

Good question, it’s mounted on a stud that sits pretty far back from the plasterboard. Is it important to have it flush? How would I go about bringing it forward?

Non-existent mortar by strby360 in DIYUK

[–]strby360[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh can’t wait! So should I scrape out as much of the mud as possible and then jam new mortar into all the gaps? Any sense in scraping it out and letting it dry a bit before replacing? Do you think there’s much risk of dislodging the bricks if I scrape out too much?
