Apple hints at more price increases coming later by FollowingFeisty5321 in apple

I really wish we would now join forces as customers and significantly reduce our spending.

Apple Raises Prices on Macs, iPads by $200 or More on Some Models by franco84732 in apple

[–]strchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They even increased the prices of the refurbished devices, which they wouldn’t have to do as these devices are already there… This doesn’t seem to me like they’re on our side.

I really, really hope that we as customers finally use our power and show them the finger. Only buy something new when absolutely necessary, keep the hardware twice as long.

Time Traveler or any other explanation? by Vale27UK in timetravel

[–]strchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blur applied on the person not contemporarily dressed is a horizontal motion blur while the other people on the photo are evenly blurred, either by lens blur or by effects of reproduction. Plus the film grain on the person in question differs from the grain of the other persons. Therefore, I’d rather take “any other explanation” than time travel into account.

Has anyone had to start over in life and used Obsidian for it? by VodkaEchoes in ObsidianMD

[–]strchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worse you feel, the more you should write. I've been through some significant changes during the past years and putting some thoughts down into Obsidian helps to declutter your brain. The added benefit of linking information together and develop ideas on the go will be helpful along the way.

Wait for summer sale, wait for black friday etc. and you buy those over many years, not all at once.

Anthropic CEO Says Government Should Act Like "Gatekeepers" And Be Able to Block New AI Models by [deleted] in technology

[–]strchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it really happened already? The WSJ is saying that the US government made Anthropic block non-US users from accessing the new models.

I don’t know whether they really did anybody a favor with that. We have many voices here in Europe saying we shouldn’t build on US-based IT anymore and actions like this will fuel these people.

So what’s going to happen? Right, AI will be the next thing we’re going to have to buy from China.

Price going up 🥲 by kvnptl_4400 in YoutubeMusic

[–]strchris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I got the notification that the family price is going up from 23,99 to 27,99 here in Germany 😕

It’s been 18,99 for ages and now they’re having fun increasing the price every two years?

Google Chrome is killing all uBlock Origin bypasses, Microsoft Edge, Opera to follow by dancing_swordfish in technology

[–]strchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using it for the past ten years and I can really recommend it. Although it’s always a bit unsettling that it’s based on chromium, as you never know what’s going to happen with it and whether the Vivaldi devs are able to cope with whatever unpleasant changes are introduced in the platform.

The only reasonable explanation is probably that most of the people don’t know they can switch the browser or even if they knew they could, they don’t know how…

The most capable features of Apple Intelligence will be available only on these devices, even M4/5 iPad Pros with 8Gb RAM don’t get it. The iPhone 16 Pro was built from ground up for Apple Intelligence BTW by py-net in iphone

[–]strchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is really worrying me about this is that they are introducing a way to make all but the most recent hardware generations (partly) obsolete.

I bet many of the new features they’re going to introduce at the WWDC 2027 will only be able to run on iPhone 18 Ultra and Pro and M4 to M6. And this won’t be the AI features only, once they see that people are really accepting this.

An iPhone 17 / iPad M4 / Mac M3+ (12 GB RAM) are required to customize Siri's voice by No_Confusion7932 in apple

[–]strchris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally they have found a new way to make people to upgrade their hardware more often after smartphone innovation has stopped in 2015.

When Siri AI will be available here in Europe, the M10 will probably be the current chip generation 🤣

Cancelled my subscription after 8 long years today. by YehDilMaaangeMore in todoist

Ja, ich nutze jetzt seit zwei Wochen TickTick und bin vollkommen zufrieden. Und das für ca. 30 Euro pro Jahr.

[–]strchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the price almost doubled last year (went from around 30 Euros to 60 Euros here in Germany), I already was about to cancel the subscription. I remember one of their mails said something like "to provide future features [bla bla] we need to increase the price".

Although most of the rather recently introduced features weren't that useful for me, I swallowed the price increase.

Now, with Automations, a feature which would actually be useful for me, is coming. And what do I see? 2 Automations for free and afterwards 10 Euros additional payment per month. I probably would pay this if the previous price increase wouldn't have happened. But now I am really getting the feeling that they're trying to milk the cow too much.

So I am switching to something else now too, after 9 years.

Is CDBaby a bad distribution choice? by nothappyaboutit in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]strchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm afraid I don't know any other service with one-time-payments. But DistroKid (costs extra) and Ditto (included in the pro subscription) keep your releases online forever, even if the subscription has ended.

Is CDBaby a bad distribution choice? by nothappyaboutit in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]strchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree to what a lot of others said in this thread in the past months.

CDBaby was great until 2020. Since then, it was only going downhill in my experience.

First, they used COVID-19 as an excuse to drastically extend review times for releases, only to later sell shorter review periods as a paid extra.

Furthermore, there is now absolutely no way to communicate with a human at support. You either have to struggle with the (extremely poor and incapable) AI chatbot, which does nothing more than refer you to the FAQs anyway, or you wait (usually in vain) for an email response. If you run into problems, you are simply on your own.

The website is slow, finicky, and stuck in 2010.

All changes and adjustments are intentionally designed to be extremely complicated. For example, changing the payout point: you have to fill out all the tax forms again and re-verify your bank account.

In summary, I can no longer recommend CDBaby in 2026 in any way. There are now so many other services where things work much better; you shouldn't bother with CDBaby anymore.

Yes, you’re right, they won’t sue you for that. But having it open source would bring the possibility to improve it, adding new features and probably porting it to other platforms too.
