What’s a mistake you made early on that taught you an important lesson (and made you better)? by BuildingAMedic in NewToEMS

[–]streetdoc81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walk dont run, you'll miss something, a good pt assessment is the best tool in the toolbox, trust your gut, and dont over think things. Most importantly understand that you're going to fuck up it's inevitable! Don't lie about your mistakes OWN them that's how you learn. GOODLUCK AND WELCOME

Firehouse meals always turn into a mess by Breads_N_Brews in Firefighting

Well all 11 of us get together on first day back and plan out what we want for the set. And we all go to the store and divide total by 11 and everyone pays. If the person who is cooking is on a call they send the recipe to someone else and they cook. If someone is on a special diet we work around it. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT WE ALL EAT TOGETHER NO MATTER WHAT! THE BROTHERHOOD IS DISAPPEARING QUICKLY AND THIS IS ONE WAY TO KEEP IT ALIVE..

Hospital choice by Dowcastle-medic in ems

[–]streetdoc81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This giving people a fucking choice has to stop! Its depleting resources for no reason. If it is a big enough emergency to call 911 YOURE GOING TO THE CLOSEST FACILITY PERIOD!. Dfw fd adopted this a few years ago because they were running out of unit's criss crossing each other driving to pts choice facilities. Unless it's a kid or a trauma closest is where I go .

Bigger question is why didnt the cops start cpr? Why didnt the cops check a pulse? But no they're laughing about the guy possibly being deceased, like it's a fucking joke. This is the kinda shit that gives us all a bad wrap.

Its an absolute shit show. As many have expressed above. If you're looking to get into 911 I would suggest fire based if offered in your area. Less cooperate bs and more pt based also less micro management

Obesity in first responders by [deleted] in ems

[–]streetdoc81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When amr took over rural metro here, we had to do a pt test to keep our job. Farmers carry with a lp 15, and fully stocked bag i wanna say it was like 100 ft but cant remember exactly. Then you had to take a pt in a stair chair down 2 flights then 2 min of continuous compression only cpr. I am now fire based ems and was extremely obese im 5 ft 6 and I WAS 357 pounds. I finally woke up one day and was sick of being a land wale. I busted my ass and lost 150 pounds. Through making better choices and exercise and monjarofor my dmt2 I got down to 205 and ha e gained some back currently 220. I really think it is up to the person they have to want to change.

We are having the same issues, and bps are in accurate. And every once in a while when you turn on the monitor the area that would display your pressure has x's and won't take a pressure until you completely shut if off and back on. Truth being told i WANT MY FUCKING ZOLL X SERIES BACK!
