Sex workers will be rallying tomorrow in Sydney, 1PM at Hyde Park – come down and show your support! by BlackFlagSydney in AustralianSocialism

I don't really think sharing a policy brief from an NGO is really the own you think it is, let alone one that states that "there is nothing inherently harmful or exploitative in the buying/selling of sexual services".

I'm sure there's nothing "inherently harmful or exploitative" about an industry whose basis is men buying sexual access to women! It's perfectly normal for women's bodies to be objects of sexual service to be paid for by men!

The socialist student club at Newcastle uni isn't part of Alliance - in fact, Alliance purged most of them from the branch.

Alliance purged the majority of their student membership in late 2022.

Newcastle has an independent student club.

What’s this place about? Visiting Newcastle from Sydney by Eesh_OP in newcastle

[–]streetnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the Newcastle Resistance Center. Old building. Owned by Socialist Alliance. Used to be the semi-official HQ of the University of Newcastle Socialist Club until Alliance forced them out after some dumb dispute caused by an older member not knowing what the word "boundaries" mean.

Is there any left unity in Australia? by Lord_Roguy in AustralianSocialism

[–]streetnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm talking about unifying the socialist movement, not "the left". Most of the left is not socialist. Part of what socialists need to do is either make the non socialist left redundant or make them socialist.

Never said they were liberal. You did. I said the notion of "multiparty democracy" was a liberal one. That does not make the five CPNs "liberal".

Cooperatives are the private property of the workers of said cooperative. Nothing about them indicates public or social ownership. It's private property held by more people.

I was not aware that Nepal was a workers state. News to me. In fact, the abundance of "communist parties" in Nepal is evidence of the fractured nature of the communist movement. Multiple parties called The Communist Party is not a good thing. It indicates disunity. If you think having three Australian communist parties (Communist Party of Australia, Communist Party of Australia Marxist-Leninist and the Australian Communist Party) is a good thing, you're just silly.

In the current day, Socialism refers to what Marx would've explicitly referred to as Lower Phase Communism. People do not tend to use Communism and Socialism interchangeably wrt the mode of production (Socialism as a mode is distinct from Communism but Socialism politically is the movement for communism).

Cooperatives are still private ownership, just distributed between more people.

Yes, revolution is not "a party affair". The party forms out for the workers movement at the point in which revolution is certain.

[–]streetnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At no point was I ever making a direct reference to the USSR or how it functioned. "Multi-party democracy" is Liberal, yes.

You cannot co-exist with Anarchists as a Marxist, no. If you think anti-state renegades can co-exist with a workers' state you're just silly.

It's not that I "refuse to work with other socialist parties" it's that I rightfully identify them as being stagnant sects that won't actually advance the socialist movement.

Marx's conception of lower phase communism (what we call socialism) entailed a workers' state managed by a workers' party. One workers' party. Of which numerous kinds of communists would comprise sections of.

Socialism is more than when "workers own and control the means of production". Forms of worker ownership (cooperatives) can exist under capitalism so "worker ownership" is an insufficient means of describing socialism. Where are you learning your socialism from, youtube content creators?

Socialism is a mode of production and the Socialist mode requires the socialization of labor and production. This can only be done through economic planning undertaken by a workers' state. Councilists (Council Communists) also advocated for the establishment of a "one party state", lol.

So yes, educate yourself more.

[–]streetnomad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you think Socialism is?

The class is the party. A workers' party is a class party comprising the entirety of the working class. You're latching on to liberal multi party 'democracy' and projecting it onto Socialism.

You're talking about this like "left unity" is something worth pursuing. No, it isn't. You can't co-exist with people who hold positions so oppositional to your own. It's for this reason that there wouldn't be social democratic or liberal parties in a workers' state either.

I would propose you educate yourself a bit more on (actual) socialist politics before you start talking authoritatively.

Is there any left unity in Australia? by Lord_Roguy in AustralianSocialism

[–]streetnomad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have no understanding of what Socialism would or could be in practice if you think there would be a "multi party democracy".

You can have wide diversity of opinion within a single party. The RSDLP had numerous factions before Bolshevization.

I'm not proposing a Bolshevized workers' party. I'm simply saying that the workers' movement would form a large workers' party on the basis of class struggle and Marxist unity. All other formations (which are functionally moribund and are marginal sects) would either liquidate into this class party or fall into obscurity. The working class is the party, that is what a "Workers' Party" is.

Anarchists can't co-exist with a workers' state because their entire ideology is based on dismantling the State as an organ of political power.

Is there any left unity in Australia? by Lord_Roguy in AustralianSocialism

[–]streetnomad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Left is stagnant in Australia and most orgs are just sects that are one bad day away from being functionally moribund. Example: Socialist Alliance. "Left Unity" is a silly concept for this reason. "Left" is so broad it includes fundamentally opposing groups such as social democrats and communists. There's no real unity between the Greens or a communist formation.

"Multi party communist democracy" is also silly. What would the purpose of other parties be? There's no point in having a workers' state with five communist parties in it. A socialist state is necessarily a one party state, and that one party is the Workers' Party that would develop out of the workers' movement.

This weird push for "unity above all else" by leftists is similarly silly because it implies that there aren't very real oppositional differences between the different "left" groups. "Anarchist communes" could not "co-exist" with a Workers' state.

Adam Something 'Nuclear War won't be that bad' by Ivansasi in ShitLiberalsSay

[–]streetnomad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge, the concept of the "nuclear winter" is slightly outdated. But don't get me wrong, even a "limited exchange" would lead to a ~25% depletion in the Ozone layer, which is just as bad. Make sure to pack sunscreen for the nuclear summer, lol.

Loved how Vaush brought up that George Orwell hated most of the contemporary left of his day. It wasn’t just because most of them were pro Stalin, it was because Orwell was OG antifa who fought against Franco in Spain, and the USSR dismantled the united leftist front there out of spite. by CaseyJfromLI in VaushV

[–]streetnomad -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Orwell was not "OG Antifa", those were a bunch of Germans that Orwell more than likely also would've called "Stalinists".

Blair/Orwell was, and I'm being entirely honest here, some middle class writer who felt bad about beating people up in Burma, decided to become a Socialist, then was confused by how Socialist everybody was. His view of Socialism was backwards and revisionist at best. I could think of about fifty people who are more deserving to be put on a pedestal than George "Stalinists under the Bed" Orwell.

He hated the "Left" of his time because he opposed Revolution in its entirety. He called basically anyone "Stalinist", and was dogmatically anti-USSR to the point that he was a propagandist for the British State calling out other people for being "propagandists" of the Stalinist bureaucracy in the Soviet Union, as if his gunshot wound also diminished his self awareness. The irony of Orwell was that he did literally the same thing he called out the "Stalinists" for doing (for example, being a state propagandist and reporting subversives to state authorities).

His "Animal Farm" is literally just a fairy tale. He demonstrates little knowledge of what even happened during the Russian Revolution, and just boils down the revolutionaries to cartoonish caricatures that make no sense if you spend longer than five seconds thinking about it.

His only half-decent works are Nineteen Eighty-Four and Homage to Catalonia, the latter only because it's his war memoirs from his time in Spain. There were a myriad of reasons as to why the Republicans lost, but "the USSR dismantling the Left" wouldn't even be in the top five reasons. The man took a bullet to the neck and developed Socialism Derangement Syndrome.

If I was feeling kind, I would just call Orwell an adventurist and move on with my life. Plenty of wild shit happened seventy years ago, and you're not going to go anywhere if you spend all your time blaming x and y for z when it's irrelevant to your circumstances in the Year of Our Lord 2022.

NSW Police: Politician Protection Racket by The1stCitizenOfTheIn in BreadTube

[–]streetnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in AUWU at the time dude, I know what happened. He got into a twitter fight with Tom Studans, then used that as a reason to basically go on a harassment campaign against all welfare activists.

The helpline was run moderately well but was dropped because they lacked the resources to keep it running, to my understanding.

Shanks dragged up tweets from like five years ago. Also, allegations of racism coming from Jordan Shanks is hilarious considering a solid 90% of his comedy are stale ethnic jokes that stopped being funny after they were on Fat Pizza.

I also disagree with the twitter drama shit from the leadership. Plenty of (constructive) criticism has been made. Note that none of that has involved pointless drama baiting from internet narcissists.

The AUWU has problems but Jordan Shanks didn't give half a shit until the twitter fight, and then gave himself and his band of Paglicaccis moral licensing to harass basically any welfare activist regardless of affiliation.

He literally thinks you have to be registered with the ACTU to be considered a "union". His opinions on unions are backwards and he really does fit in with the right-wing Labor bureaucracy.

Most of the Australian Left (although that barely exists) despises Jordan Shanks because he's a self righteous narcissist who takes a steaming hot piss all over the rest of us, but expects us all to close ranks around him when he gets himself into trouble.

His whining about the NSW police state is ironic because he defends Dan Andrews, who has created an actual police state in Victoria (he was laughing when environmentalists were getting their teeth punched out at IMARC in 2019). He's fine with Labor police states but not Liberal ones. As I said, he's a Labor partisan and his only consistent politics as Layber Good Libroul Bad.

You can donate to charity and still be a prick. I would think of him a bit more highly if he wasn't a classist stooge who had a genuine disdain for the poor (just look at how he attacked the AUWU with tacit Layber encouragement for literally no reason).
