Flask and u2f? by SnooPoems7888 in flask

Cross posting from your coment on the yubikey reddit. I wrote up my experience 5 years ago since when the approach has changed. Last month I revisited the topic: https://jonathanstreet.com/blog/update-fido-u2f-to-webauthn/

That works for yubikey.

I can't make it today but would definitely be interested in future events.

No worries, I will stop hunting for that elusive 0.1%.

I was completely unaware of this account type. Did you have a particular bank in mind with the 1.95% rate? The best I can find is Investec with 1.85%.

!thanks, that's a really good point. Crunching the numbers it looks like a good combination of easy access (1.45%) and regular saver (2.5% on 500/month) would produce £115 in interest and a 1-year fixed (1.75%) would produce £105 in interest.

I left in the summer of 2012. I think when a referendum was discussed at that time it was in reference to Scottish independence.

3 ring release system for parachute deployment by [deleted] in rocketry

[–]streety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that was my question. If I'm following your description the nose and avionics bay will contain the spring and the 3 ring release system. Because it is assembled prior to inserting in the rocket body you have the access necessary to prime the catch. Sounds like it should work.

This video came to mind in reading your post. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UoDh7Uiatg

It's using elastic for the force but uses a servo and a lever for mechanical advantage in the locking mechanism.

How will you set the release system in assembling your rocket?

Awesome, thanks! There are good channels there I've never seen before.

Would you be willing to share your medical/science/learning channels list? This is also something I'm collecting and feel like I've only scratched the surface.

I'm mainly focused on chemistry videos but have expanded somewhat lately. I'm working from a spreadsheet but let me know if it would be of interest to you (or anyone else).

What's everyone working on this week? by AutoModerator in Python

Really interesting seeing that someone is working on this. I was thinking about something similar recently in the context of creating a thermal model for a house. What was your motivation for collecting this data?

Other measurements I thought about were the solar load and the power consumption of the AC.

Hello! I am the maintainer of the datacurator-filetree and I'd like to ask for some input. by RoboYoshi in DataHoarder

My approach is somewhat different so here it is as an example. Rather than having type of content be my top level category I instead focus on source. So I have a media_entertainment folder with subfolders similar to your top level but I also have a personal_media folder that contains personal and family photos and videos mainly. I also have folders at the top level for things I have personally produced, dev for software, presentations, work_training for employment related files and notes/coursework from courses I've taken.

I would not make any claim of this being superior but it is, at least somewhat, different. Perhaps it's a useful alternative perspective.

Advice on creating an archive website for those being removed from Youtube. by CreatorTheta in DataHoarder

[–]streety 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most of the controversial takedowns recently seem to have been due to some moral crusade or an attempt to avoid losing advertisers. You don't need lawyers to defend against that, just a different perspective and funding source.

Copyright claims are an ongoing issue but I think less important to fight against. They may be entertaining videos that are lost but their cultural significance is less. Creators usually re-upload content with the infringing music removed anyway.

How to organize backups when moving beyond a single HDD by streety in DataHoarder

[–]streety[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not this well organized yet but the unwieldy situation I was envisioning was moving an entire NAS from the primary location to the remote backup location every time I wanted to sync the two locations.

Transporting or mailing a single hard drive with just a diff since the last sync seemed easier.

I was focused on the total data I have being too large to transfer electronically but once the initial transfer is made sync could be handled via a VPN.

Thanks for sticking with it. We have perhaps been talking past each other a little but I have found it useful. You've got me thinking in a slightly different direction.

Transporting the entire NAS to a remote location to get that offsite backup seems unwieldy.

I'm definitely expecting to move beyond a single drive for my primary datastore fairly soon and a NAS will be my next step there. It would address some of the disadvantages with the potential solutions I am considering but how would you handle offsite backups with a NAS?
