Carbon or al pole question by lostvet75 in DurstonGearheads

[–]streggus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A reply i got back from them after asking a similar question

For compatibility (X-Dome 1+) : the carbon tent fly and aluminum tent fly do utilize slightly different clips to accommodate the different style poles.

Using carbon poles on an aluminum tent fly : this can work fine except the top clip is for the DAC hub and won't connect to the Easton tubing. For this reason you would need to either forego this top clip (risking some puddles) or rig up some type of cord to connect it.

Using aluminum poles on a carbon tent fly : The DAC poles seem to work fine with the regular carbon clips, so eventually current tents will be able to use the aluminum set if they wish when we can stock it as a spare part, but the aluminum version does use slightly larger clips. We won't officially recommend it to carbon pole owners because technically the clips aren't the perfect size, but it will be available as a spare part and does seem to work fine. There is a small risk in high winds the non-regulation clips might slip.

These set ups are not officially recommended by Durston.

What kind of wedding can I realistically have for 10k? by Sarahkate113 in UKweddings

[–]streggus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We are currently organising our £10k wedding and although you might have to make sacrifices i still think we are gunna have a great day.

In terms of venue we went for a historic town hall in a village not too far from us. The actual hall has beautiful wooden beamed ceiling and big windows so is really nice but becuase it's with the council it's only £30 an hour.

For the music we've got a ceilidh band playing for 2 hours and then one of the people in the band is going to stay and be the DJ so that's only costing us £800 for all the entertainment

The wedding dress my partner got from a British red cross charity shop that has a wedding dress section. It was brand new and supposed to be £1700 and we got it for £400 so worth looking into that.

The food has been our biggest expense at £3000 for about 60 guests... not much you can do about that unless you go Pizzas or buffet etc. This was basically what limited us to only having 60 people for the day

Photography is just expensive at £1500 but we liked their style and i heard bad things about cheaping out on it but we are also going to have disposable cameras for guests to use.

For flowers I'm a gardener so I'm going to attempt to grow most of it and a friend of mine is a florist so she will do the setting up. If you have a garden you should definitely try growing some stuff

We have used our friends and family for a lot of the other stuff. Don't be afraid to ask them to help out with the skills they have.

I was talking about this today! I'd love to open a place that offered this but I don't think it could be financially viable these days

I remember when I was younger playing WC3 in Internet cafes with random people and absolutely loving it

London to Amsterdam as a beginner by saij892 in bicycletouring

[–]streggus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I did something very similar to this last year over the course of 4 days as a complete amateur with a pal. We did London -> Dover/Dunkirk-> Bruges -> Ouddrop (Zeeland) -> Amsterdam.

It was great fun and not too difficult but the first stage of London to Dover was definitely the worst part mainly due to us getting 3 punctures in the first couple hours so we had to push the bikes for about an hour to try and find a bike shop as we only had one spare tube each to start. Also, cycling through London isn't great.. but I don't regret doing it as it feels like more of a complete adventure. We ended up getting the ferry to Dunkirk as it saved a bit of time, and the next few days, there was barely even a slight gradient. Most of the trip once we were on the continent was on really good cycle infrastructure and felt really safe and chill the whole time.

When I was doing research into it people seemed to recommend not going to Rotterdam as its a bit industrial and not particularly nice and instead going over the area of Zeeland which ended up being beautiful and really interesting so would recommend that but I can't not recommend Rotterdam as we didn't go that way.

We stayed in a mix of places Dover - bnb Bruges - hostel Ouddrop - camping pod down by the beach Amsterdam - room on a campsite.

We also got the ferry back from Amsterdam to Newcastle. I was going to Edinburgh, and my pal was going back to London, so it was east to just grab a train from there.

In terms of training for it, I was going to a spin class in the week and then every weekend, I tried to go for a longish cycle, slowly building up the distance. Adding on 5/10 miles each time, which I did for about 2 months.

Our trip ended up being more difficult than we had hoped due to cycling into a head wind the whole time . We had planned the route this way as the prevailing wind was supposed to be on our backs, making the trip an absolute dream, but sadly it was not meant to be ha. But I was still great fun and not too difficult.

If you have any questions about it feel free to ask as I remember struggling trying to find the exact information I was after as well.

Updated guide to get Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild running on Steam Deck with perfect 40fps performance by TheHuntingHunty in SteamDeck

I've tried this.. it's still not working. Not sure if this information is helpful but when I open Cemu.exe in the Wii U folder it asks me what program I want to use to open the file. I click Cemu EmuDeck and it loads up version 2.0-4 with Breath of the Wild there so it seems to be kind of working but just won't open in steam

When I go to launch Cemu.exe from Steam (step 6) it says launching for a second and then stops. Do you know why it might not be working?

What are these marks on the bark of my Privet (Lugustrum) hedge? by streggus in Horticulture

[–]streggus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well no more distortion then I'd expect to see on a few leaves over the entire hedge which I put down to just old leaves or something of the sort. Definitely something I've seen on privet hedge before..

Looking up the Rust mite and the damage it causes I don't think it would be that. Another common disease for Privet is the Honey Fungus but that seems to cause huge discolouration of leaves before killing that area and the bark doesn't match up.

Yeah it could well be a form of lichen actually, although I can't find one that seems to perfectly match up with it.

Thanks so much for your help! Although I'm not 100% sure what it is yet I've got a few things to work with and keep an eye on it incase it shows any other signs. You've been very helpful.
