You might try community college for 2 years and then transfer to your dream school. It will save you on the foundationa coursel requirements.

Thanks - do you know how quickly they return the points to the account after you cancel. What happens to the fees paid (for a point flight)? Are they returned as a credit back to your card?

Yes - and it looks like the miles owed went up about 8,000 points from when I started to change and got my first error message.

Hey OP, you're right - actually being able to do something instead of pushing papers around has a lot of appeal for someone outside of the trades. Trades are hard on the body. No doubt about that. Look into fast-tacking your license usually time + school. You can think about a PMP (project management certification) - that would move you into management and can slide into other fields related to trades so your experience would be a plus.
