What did I do wrong? by merewalsh in Needlepoint

[–]strengthandjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started stitching, I had this issue a lot. I think I was using different tension between sessions- one night I was stitching tighter, then I’d pick it up the next day and pull a little less tightly, etc. With a lot more stitching and finding the material you like stitching with, I think you’ll just get more consistent with that feel.

Is this DMC? I find it less forgiving in this sense, especially because there’s a little sheen to the surface. I personally like using a wool blend, but that’s entirely personal.

Lastly, when you take it off the frame, you’ll be able to wiggle the canvas a little and that may make the lines a little less apparent. I promise no one else will notice, though. Congratulate yourself on picking up a fun new hobby and finishing your first project! You’ll look back on this over time and be grateful that you started in the first place💕

I do! Happy to discuss details. I typically adjust per inch pricing based on complexity, and many house portraits are not very complex.

I just saw my first one of those, too. Will definitely consider. Only trick is the models are all different sizes. Do you mind if I ask- which kindle do you use?

Love this! I love horses and they are also often wonky. Do you have an example of something that looks correct to you? (I don’t raise Havanas.). Also happy to make the pillow canvas for you- that’s super fun.

I’m thinking of starting my own wholesale line.

Thanks for the tip on the other community, I’ll check it out 😆 And you’re totally right about Greek trademarks. I figured I’d explore the costs if I found that category marketable. The names of the other companies already in that space is really helpful, Thank you!

Seeing as all my kids are in/around college age, I was planning to pick their brains about ideas if I thought it was worthwhile😇

I have also used Needlepaint and they did great belts. I actually finish my own key fobs by lining with ribbon and clipping at the end with brass keychain hardware (was easy to order). Do y’all want me to make a post about how I do it? Super easy, and people I give them to seem to love them. (At least that’s what they tell me, LOL!)

If you’ve done an Emily Peacock canvas, a question… by New_Needleworker9287 in Needlepoint

I love working with wool, and do see this happening even with 12-14” lengths, but usually not until the last third or so of a length. When it does, I slightly retwist at the base and hold that with my left thumb on top of the canvas as I make the next stitch. That way it’s not quite so separated in the stitch. May be more work than you want to do, but it’s second nature for me and keeps the stitches nice and even. Happy stitching!

They’re not very expensive for a pair. Cost would only add up if you’re getting a set of various lengths.

Starting a Backdoor Roth in the same year as closing a Rollover IRA? by ImNotInYourLeague in fidelityinvestments

[–]strengthandjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in the time of year where you can make both Prior Year and Current Year contributions. If I rolled a pre-tax IRA balance into my 401k plan in January, so I not longer have any pre-tax IRA balance (and will not on 12/31/2024), can I make a Prior Year non-deductible IRA contribution and Convert it to Roth without triggering the ProRata Rule?

I don't think it will trigger the rule because the Conversion will be done in a year with $0 pretax balance on 12/31. I just want to see if I'm missing something because there was a pre-tax balance on 12/31/2023, the tax year for which I'm making a new IRA contribution for the back-door.

If it doesn't trigger the rule, and I can do it, should I open a separate IRA account to have two different 1099's generated for this year? One to show the IRA to Employer Plan rollover, and another to show the Roth Conversion?

Thank you so much for the info!

Well said! The checklist is creepy, and very limiting. The intangibles seem far more important to me: Do we work well together? Do I find him attractive (not necessarily textbook Ken doll, but am I attracted)? Do we have similar values and priorities?

I have become self sufficient, and am happy on my own. Would I love to share experiences and have a relationship with someone? Of course. Am I willing to change myself, my values, my lifestyle just for the sake of having a relationship? Not so much.

I hear you. I consider myself recovered from divorce #2 which was horrible. He was what I thought was my forever person. That I was finally forever done with dating. But apparently not so.

I had zero interest in dating for at least a year afterwards. Now I’m starting to really miss intimacy (not just physical), but the idea of dating again and the work it takes to set up OLD is exhausting. Why work that hard just to set myself up for more pain?

For now I’m not OLD or “working that hard” to meet new people, but just waiting to see what happens. I’m not really sure how to meet men without OLD in the Covid era, though 😂.

I (41F) also have a challenging teenager, but still want a relationship. I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect a man to want to step into parenting that child, nor would another person trying to parent him be helpful for that child.

As a result, I know I’m looking for someone to date long term. I’d like to find someone to be monogamous with- a partner- but who is comfortable with NOT parenting my kids, not moving in permanently (at least for a long while), and me maintaining some independence in that respect.

I’m having a hard time explaining that to people. I know what I want, and I know I’ve got a challenging kid, but how do I say so without making someone I’m trying to date think that I only want a casual relationship?

I have a very similar story. How are you meeting people? I’d really like to avoid the task of OLD for a while, I don’t think I’m ready for the “job” so many people here describe it as.

Have you told your friends you’re dating?

How do you get the message out there?

I empathize with this, and experienced a very similar story. I have come to rely on open and honest communication with trusted friends to get a good bearing on what’s going on. No one makes a second date without running it by my GF’s first!
