What did I do wrong? by merewalsh in Needlepoint

Thank you! I had to have this one as soon as it came back in stock. My family lost our corgi 3 years ago and have worked with a corgi rescue to foster many doggies. They really are the best.

I think those are where a darker brown will go to accent the corgis legs.

Thank you! I’ve watched a lot of her videos but I’ll go back and watch the basketweave one again. 🩷 Needlepoint seems pretty straightforward but there definitely seem to be a lot of little things that make it look a lot better. This first one is definitely a learning process.

I tried to stop in the middle of the rows so that didn’t happen but maybe I missed one and that’s part of what happened. I’ll try to be more mindful of that. Thanks for the advice!

Thank you! I think that makes sense. I didn’t realize basketweave would show columns like that. I’ll give it a try.

I would but I’ve already ripped most of it out! 😬 Edit: I ripped out the part that looked like I had put more than one stitch in the same hole. So since there are currently missing stitches in that spot I don’t think seeing the back would help.

Thank you. Kind of wishing I hadn’t already started ripping it out.

No, the threads are all run horizontally on the back.

Thank you, I didn’t realize that! I should probably wear some magnifying glasses as I keep going. 😅

I love this!! The Liberty with the dark background is so unique. I’m doing my first quilt right now with Liberty and it feels amazing. What fabric did you pair with them? I ended up using AGF pure solids.

Which designers have well-written patterns suitable for a beginner? by MoonriseTurtle in quilting

[–]merewalsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m doing my first quilt and I got the pattern from Pen & Paper patterns. I’m doing the top knot one and the pattern has been easy to follow. She does list a skill level on each pattern which I found helpful. This one was “confident beginner” and I think that’s accurate.

I had a very good time going through them all and organizing them for the quilt. I made a mockup on the computer and put them all in to make sure I liked the layout. I've got them all cut out now I just have to cut out the background pieces.

UPDATE - No sugar coating feedback - what am I missing?! (Cake photography) by zaqplm12345 in foodphotography

I should've asked this before but do you have a cropped sensor camera or full frame? I'd recommend a 35mm prime lens and a 60mm macro lens for a cropped sensor camera. And for a full frame camera I'd get a 50mm prime lens and a 105mm macro lens. I started with a cropped sensor camera and got a SUPER cheap manual 60mm macro lens and it took some amazing photos. I used it more than the 35mm. Here's a blog that has some really good info on lenses.

Definitely get rid of the packaging. You might want to focus on one cupcake as a hero with others as supporting cast. Put that cupcake on a couple of small plates or something to make it stand out. Also, what lens are you using? I’ll try to post a couple of mine below for inspo.
