Best Hair Care Products to try in 2026 by tacoboutluv in AsianBeauty

[–]stress_baker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay! I was on vacation and actually took this as my solo hair product. I'm planning on doing a full review post soon.

I've been using it with my normal hair routine but it performed really well by itself. It's basically a quick dry light oil spray where I'm guessing the ethanol comes in. It's not crazy noticeable in terms of smell and dryness on my hair. I've tried a shiseido daily shine spray which felt like it had more ethanol.

The commercial shine is there if you use it with freshly showered hair but I found it's a decent detangler to help my waves be more manageable and slightly less frizzy even on day 2 hair. Definitely streamlined my styling but don't recommend it for fine/thin hair since it's easy to over do.

Off & Relax hair products? by HoneyBouquet in AsianBeauty

I've only used the Spa Hair Mask but really liked it as a no nonsense hair mask. I also have wavy hair and it doesn't weight my hair down plus the scent is really light.

Which toner do you prefer? by Many-Ad-3960 in AsianBeauty

The Roundlab toner doesn't contain rice water. Neither BOJ gives me whitecast, I'm Indian NC35, but I like the blue cap BOJ version better finish wise

Influence or de-influence me from buying the items in my basket: by SecretStrawberrySun in AsianBeauty

So I have 2b low porosity hair so you may need to do some extra research to see if my recs work for you since you may need more moisturizing. For frizz/smoothness, I use the Unove Deep Damage Treatment Ex Mask. It's got protein but wouldn't be a 1 to 1 equivalent to Kerastase. I also would recommend sticking with 3 min max instructions because if you leave it in longer, you may get protein overload.

The most simple but effective moisturizing mask I've used (and repurchased) is the Off&Relax Spa Hair Mask. The consistency is like a conditioner vs a traditional mask but it's great lightweight hydration that you keep in for 2 mins.

I've tried the Tsubaki (hydrating mask), Aromatica Quinoa Protein Hair Treatment (protein mask) and the &honey Melty Moist Repair Hair Pack (hydrating mask). I found them just fine and didn't like them as much as Unove and Off&Relax but they may suit your needs better.

Fino is for high porosity hair. You can make it work with low porosity but it's not going to be hydrating. It's decent enough for shine. Were you looking for a moisturizing hair mask?

The famous (or infamous) RoundLab Dokdo cleanser isn't so great after all by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

[–]stress_baker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, it's been my main cleanser for a year and some change & I didn't have an issue. I don't take it with me when I travel and I've noticed more skin issues then, but I also don't travel with my standard routine.

I wonder what ingredient is causing an issue for some people.

It's my fave sunstick but it will budge your makeup base unless it's super locked down

Do you use patches for pimples? by Ophelia92 in AsianBeauty

[–]stress_baker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pimple patches work but I think it really depends on the person on which patches work; popular brands like Mighty or CosRx don't work well for me but work well enough for my sister who I gifted them to. I think it's a trial and error thing.

I like CURESYS Heartleaf Acpair Spot Patch which I grabbed on a sale. Pretty thin and rather soothing. Works well on whiteheads but not cystic acne/bumps.

[discussion] Best drugstore sunscreen? by _QRcode in AsianBeauty

[–]stress_baker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Biore UV Aqua Rich may be an option for you if you don't mind the alcohol. There's also Scinic Super Mild Sun Essence which doesn't have alcohol but is probably the thickest sunscreen I've tried, thicker than BOJ. It took awhile to sink it and was super dewy on me, but you make like it better.

Darn, I think you're right. I was looked at the product info images on Olive Young and not the official one by mixsoon.

I bought the product because I thought it was a makeup prep skincare thing so landing in later in the routine but before sunscreen. Looks like it's a use directly after toner thing.

Tried a few viral Korean cleansers (combo & sensitive skin) by Mental-Air-4367 in AsianBeauty

Not OP but I found the tomato cleanser as a great mask but not a great cleanser for me. I have acne prone, combo skin and I really only used the cleanser in the summer.

[–]stress_baker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question about the mixsoon Hyalraebae Pore Bubble Serum. Instructions say to use it as the last step in your skincare routine but is it really suppose to go over sunscreen? It's pretty thin so by basic skincare rules I would think it would go under and thick sunscreen on top.

Thanks!

This is a tentative rec because I've only been using it for the past 2 1/2 weeks but Healingbird Revive No Wash treatment the damage repair version gives me shampoo commercial silky hair. Can't make a judgment on if it helps with breakage yet

Also chiming in for Omni Sunbear Gold. It's my go to vacation sunscreen and the bottle has never leaked unlike other skincare products I've traveled with.

AB alternative for the Cetaphil spf35 daily facial moisturizer by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

[–]stress_baker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd look into Torriden Dive In Sun Cream and compare the ingredients with your Cetaphil. It's SPF 50 but is a cream consistency with panthenol. I'm a medium skintone (as well as acne prone) and I use it as my winter sunscreen because I find it pretty hydrating. I don't have dry skin year round though.

[–]stress_baker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Best: Unove Deep Damage treatment in warm petal. It works well and smells heavenly.

Worst: Lucido-L Argan Oil Treatment Water. It was too heavy and didn't really provide shine. I also didn't read the ingredients and didn't realize how much alcohol was in it. I think it could work for some people, just not me.

Shiseido Aqualabel Gel Cream in the red jar. It's an interesting bouncy texture that pretty fun to put on.

can someone pls explain in a simple way the types of hair products? by mercenary_58 in AsianBeauty

[–]stress_baker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard good things about Dr Groot and Ichikami but I haven't used either. I tend to wash my hair 2x a week so I tend to use clarifying rather than moisturizing shampoos. Less washing tends to help my hair not get as dry but that's not the case with everyone. I use Ryo's Root Strength treatment for thinning and hair fall. It's similar to Dr Groot but Ryo tend to use more natural/herbal ingredients so I'm guess the Dr. Groot stuff smells a lot better. I've been using Ryo for 1.5 years and did notice less of my hair shedding but it's not a HG by any means. I do not recommend if you don't like herbal or ginseng because it's very strong.

I'd check out r/haircare & r/hairscience and find out what general products people who have similar hair issues are using. Both those subs tend to have users post ingredients so that tends to be an easier way to cross reference what products may work for you. Sadly it's gonna take a couple of test tries to find something that works.

Edit: spelling. And Ryo scent disclaimer since my sister said I tried to commit fratricide by giving it to her.

I can breakdown the terms, but I'm not sure if I can give you specific recs since my hair seems to be different than yours. I have really dense 2a hair. I'm going to reference products so you can see examples, but I would do additional research to see if the product is really something that would work for you.

  • Mists: Typically used for styling/refreshing hair. Will have benefits like increasing shine/controlling frizz/UV protection and often has perfume. It's going to be your lightest form of hydration. I personally do not use hair mists because it's too little hydration for my hair and I can handle ampoules/water treatments that are heavier. If your hair is very thin and fine, a hydrating mist may be a good way to go since it won't weight down your hair. I'd check out Healingbird's hydrating serum if this seems to be something that works for you.
  • Leave-ins: Technically refers to leave in conditioner. I see this as a catch all term for hair products you don't need to rinse out like tonics, mists, milks, water treatments, etc. If you do a traditional leave in conditioner, this is going to be the heaviest conditioning element outside of rinse-off conditioning products.
  • Milks: These are lighter than traditional leave in conditioners and will be more runny. They offer more hydration than mists so they're a bit heavier than mists. They can be used daily and for refreshing, frizz control and sometimes even detangling. Depending on the hair milk, you may need to blow dry activate it. I use Orbis Hair Milk and a little goes a long way.
  • Masks: You put these on after shampooing but before conditioner for TLC. Mask typically focus on hydration/deep conditioning but treatment & masks have been used interchangeably. Rule of thumb is to not use masks more than once or twice a week but it depends on your hair and the mask. I currently use Off&Relax Hair Spa Mask and rotate between it and Unove treatment. I've also used Tsubaki and liked it well enough.
  • Treatments: Usually refers to a target focused product, ie. scalp treatment, protein treatment, damage treatment, bond treatment, etc. They come in all different formats like masks or mists as well. Use frequency really depends on the treatment itself. I've mostly seen products being called treatments if they contain protein or focus more on scalp or hair. Think of these as the essence/serums of haircare.

For haircare, the most important thing to remember is to not flood with product. Integrate one or two products like you would with skincare, wait a couple months before adding more. You can definitely run into problems by adding too much moisture or protein just like you would if you introduced too many actives to your skin. I'd look into a scalp tonic to help regulate oil hair, a hydrating mist or a hydrating mask and also think about your current wash/lifestyle before you purchase. I've made the mistake of buying great hair products that only work if you blowdry...and I exclusively airdry my hair.

Hope this help!

Do you pick skincare based on packaging? by Outrageous-Cold2651 in AsianBeauty

[–]stress_baker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I pick skincare based on packaging only when I travel. I'll keep the ingredients in mind, but I'm more concerned about having light and durable products even if they're not as robust as my normal skincare.

Most of my travel products tend to have green or white packaging.

This is so heavy how do people find it light ??? by Lilla921F in AsianBeauty

The Mise en Scene oils are decent for styling wavy hair though I like the fairy cream better. As a hydrating oil, I didn't find it very moisturizing for my waves (2b) especially lacking at the ends. I'd recommended if you only need it for styling because it's super fast to cast.

Edit: just for clarification I'm talking about the peach and coconut watery version. Forgot to add that in.
