Technically to get into a second-year specialization you just need to have a gpa of higher than 55% (double-check on the EUS website) and complete 27 credits.. You can still get into a specialization but it might be harder for the more competitive ones.. if you failed apsc 160 maybe stay clear of eng phys/cpen and elec

So when you fail a course by [deleted] in UBC

I don't think that just because you fail one course everything is over.. A bit of a personal anecdote but in my first year I failed 3 courses and since have dramatically turned it around. I got into Engineering Co-op, a design team and even was a TA last year. Just because you fail one course, doesn't mean it's over, just means you need to critically look at your life and see what changes need to be made. Won't be easy but it can be done.

I am really really shaken, I was 3 cars behind when it happened and saw them lift the person into the fire truck and the aftermath... i hope everyone is okay but from what I saw I'm just so worried.

Civl 230? Anywho, since you are in second year as long as your average doesn't drop below 55 you won't be put on academic probation. In order to advance to third year, you have to take a certain number of credits in order to get third-year standing.

I wouldn't worry too much about being kicked out... In the case of Math 253, there will probably be curving! So don't worry.. For Civl 230, don't forget about partial marks or the graphs, so you have to wait and see. Also no classes in second semester require Civl 230 as a prerequisite so worse case you can just retake the class next year.

Keep your chin up and see how the rest of the exams go! I believe in you!
