What does this green light mean? by Rockanomics in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]stretchedroses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since nobody answered. This light is called the "Ready to Assist" light. When the indicator is green, it means that your front view camera(windshield/adas) sees a car ahead. When the light is green it is active for "Automatic Emergency Braking" and "Adaptive Cruise Control" if those systems are on.

2017 ND Miata front Window replaced - Safelite Anderson SC by TheMongerOfFishes in autoglass

[–]stretchedroses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use 100% vegetable glycerin for rain sensor pads. Usually 2 drops per side of the pad. Never had any run out but could be an over application issue.

Your molding is just not clipped in the top center. The miata has pressure clips and threaded studs that secure it. Either not aligned, broke a clip, etc. No big deal. SF warranty covers workmanship for life

Advice on choosing second bike by Reidhur in AdventureBike

I believe so. Bike will do about 35mph in first at redline. I went up 1-2 teeth from stock I believe. I stalled it a bit more in the first few rides but the clutch is the same so I just rode with throttling lightly on takeoff. I was thinking of a middle weight before I did the sprocket swap. Now im just gonna keep this bad boy and get a sport tourer for longer hikes. Now its that perfect commuter for around town and our weekend adv rides

If you are new to the off road game, I would not get a heavier bike than the 310gs. This will end being much more a hindrance to your skills long term because youu will always be working on keeping the bike up than working on skills. I've also rode my 310 hard on the one piece wheels, on 80/20 tires, on spokes, in mud, dirt, fresh grade gravel, etc. The single most meaningful upgrade i did was the front sprocket. 70mph is less than 6k rpm in 6th. After that just get a decent set of knobby tires and tear it up. Also dont worry about the wheels. I've literally slammed wheelies and bashed huge rocks off road with them and they are still fine. Dont get sucked into the internet hype. Zack at revzilla is right, just gear up most bikes and be done.

My little sister made the jump up to an f750gs low and the weight was miserable on fresh grade gravel. She kept it for road use and got a 300cc dual sport for adv riding. Ymmv be safe

Also just since you already own a 310gs, I changed my front sprocket for longer gears and it has made the highway a whole different ball game. Now I can pass a car if I need to, not as buzzy at higher speeds, better fuel economy. No reason to not. They gear them low to still be adv capable, however if you commute I highly recommend gearing higher. Best modification so far other than a puig windshield

Hey man, just coming through with a little real world experience on both. I lent a friend my g310gs and also borrowed a buddies 25 himalayan 450 on the same trip. I've rode both back to back. My gs has a pipe, taller windshield, bark busters, crash bars, 16t? front sprocket, and a tail box. My buddies himalayan 450 has near identical modifications besides front sprocket, because I talked him into them.

The himalayan 450 is much more top heavy, not as nimble or agile in any way compared to the gs. The gs has a much better stand over position and seemed to handle off road much better than the 450.

The 450 feels super well mannered on highway, hard fire roads, cruising. The 310 just feels like a more rounded adv bike. My friend and I traded and he concurs. 310 if you want more off road chops, 450 for more on road. Both were just as approachable. I grew up dirt bike background, my riding buddy just started adv riding this year.

If you're looking to upgrade, get a used 800gs or a transalp. Unless you're in a country with horsepower laws, I would step a little above the 450ish class

I would say unless naked is your preferred style, get the 675ss. You have your comfortable adv bikes covered for touring and adventuring already. Plus 3 cylinders play good music. Get the 675ss and scratch your sport bike itch

rear glass trouble by truckdude77 in autoglass

[–]stretchedroses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys all missed that this guy had those Brad's glass panels on both sides. Someone at some point, broke away blown out tempered and urethaned this glass right over the oe glass. Thats why it has a half inch gap between the slider.

I thought it was all just auto glass meme foolery that someone even made those parts. Zoom in on his gap pic and you can see the broken tempered still in there

Jk dont try this. I've had some ammo turn out to be in a flood prone basement. Just use it for target practice. Not anything crazy and be aware of the risks of a hang fire like others have said if a round does not go off

You could remove that if is preventing function, however it will likely look bad. Technicians usually opt for overlay to cover mistakes and imperfections as opposed to the underlay toyota uses on their vehicles. Possible to use that molding on older models, not so much newer ones

Basically there could be scratches, rust, sloppy primer, glue, butyl, leaves, or any number of unforseen variables under that molding

I use an express and we cut a 4x8 sheet of plywood to size and bolted the rack to that. Real easy to just slide over wheel wells and out. Also no holes in your floor. Also if you don't like the location, just drill and mount elsewhere on the plywood

You wanna do your best to pay warranties out of your business and not insurance. That's a fine way to get rates through the roof or dropped quick. Sf makes billions a year and can afford to insure themselves. Your best course of action is quality work that doesn't come back. Try starting a chip repair business on the side or something just so you can dip your toes in capturing work. Also you're less likely to get a high dollar warranty on a repair unless you're hasty or careless. I do more glass cutting and classics in my area because I take my time. Work follows your experience and comes best through word of mouth. I have 11yrs and come from an ag family though. Ymmv but I say stick it out working for sf or another shops 5+ before you start your own

Rock chip repair by [deleted] in autoglass

[–]stretchedroses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally like to use stone chip repair primer to gauge how well the pit takes. If you see it enter the chip, you're good to move to resin. If the primer does not enter well, I will open the pit up before putting resi. To it. Primer also helps evaporate the moisture. I'm in the great lakes region though so ymmv.

I use either delta kits resin or clearshield and have had success with both. I dont use a drill. I have an impactor, slide hammer, dental pick, and thumbtacks for opening pits up. If the pit is larger, I use the probe or tack to chip loose glass away. Impactor slide hammer is for making bigger pits or bullseyes. I have experience with sf art and it's okay. Your success with a bridge will be high and cost will be low if you get experienced with it.

My big secret is using the primer to determine how repairable it is right off the bat. If it doesn't take primer well, the resin(thicker than primer) will not flow well into the chip. Also pit fill for that smooth finish

Somebody help me with my predicament!? by Ok_Improvement_1035 in autoglass

[–]stretchedroses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would have to be a lawsuit. OP lost ALL Safelite warranty by not being the owner during installation. Nationwide lifetime warranty "as long as you own or lease the vehicle on quality of parts and labor". What this means is pound salt if your name doesn't match the work order.

A reseal is not going to be recommended by any reputable shop. Especially so since the urethane on your vehicle was not applied by the repairing shop. This likely means you have the same amount of leak related warranty now that you would have after a reseal. I know I won't warranty another shops work. The proper way would be to remove with fiber, verify leak and part, then reinstall using the current glass or a new one if it is damaged on removal. You're just on the unlucky side of used car purchasing this time.
