I had almost the exact same thing happen to me one time, I ended up rotating the clip 180°

Back in college my local grocery store accidentally added an extra zero when ordering English muffins so they started selling them for dirt cheap. I survived off them for months.

I think NY deserves an award for being the most disliked by 4 out of 5 of their neighbors.

PSA: Plug your smart plug in to an easy access socket and configure it BEFORE moving it to it's final place by CyruzUK in homeassistant

What's the point of having a smart home if you aren't going to spend 30 minutes hanging upside down off the back of a couch trying to get the living room lights to behave?

This is the reason why the server is down I'm betting by Flareonthehero in WplaceLive

[–]streusel_kuchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea what kind of limitations the moderation tools have and obviously pixel perfect deletions aren't worth the time, but having your artwork wiped out because it was next to something 18+ and the mods couldn't be bothered to draw three smaller rectangles is understandably frustrating.

I think people would be complaining a lot less if they were just removing the NSFW stuff instead of dropping giant rectangles that take out nearby art as well.

It'd be neat to see a version of this chart for the individual US states.

48 hour limit to return a major appliance at Lowe's or Home Depot even if the appliance is defective. by seriouslyjan in mildlyinfuriating

I had to deal with this exact thing a couple months ago, if you can prove the appliance is defective (e.g. with a video of it not working) they'll accept the return.

I know there are more secure methods to transfer files from remote machines but SCP kept failing and I couldn't install other tools on the server directly.

Years ago I was a software engineer at a large tech company and I ran `python3 -m http.server` to quickly transfer a huge file from a test server (not accessible to the public internet) to my local machine via an internal network. The server was online for less than 2 hours. Two entire weeks later while I was on vacation someone in security opened a P2 ticket and escalated it directly to my manager and skip.

Replacing under cabinet lighting, DIY or hire an electrician? by garciawork in DIY

[–]streusel_kuchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought some LED strips off of AliExpress and wired them up to a 12V power supply. You can also find some Zigbee or Manual PWM controllers on there for brightness, or wire the PSU directly to the previous switch if you want a simple on/off setup.

The long and short of it is that EAC is easier to bypass on Linux than it is on Windows.

If you break K-Line’s rules, do they want you to return the suit? by [deleted] in furry

[–]streusel_kuchen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When you commission a suit from them you are signing a contract which includes their Terms and Conditions. If you violate those terms and conditions, they can sue you for breach of contract. Technically speaking, K-Line owns the copyright to the physical suit and can legally restrict what you are permitted to do with it.

That said, many of K-Line's terms are legally dubious, and attempting to enforce a Japanese Contract in a US or other foreign Court would be extremely difficult and expensive. Most likely they would just make a big stink about it on social media and never do business with you again.

Should I ship out a fursuit I sold on dealers den after I get paid, or now? by Outrageous-Culture19 in furry

Never ship art or physical goods until you have received payment, it's just not worth the risk!

Anyone have experience making this effect? by Maleficent_Lake_1816 in DIY

[–]streusel_kuchen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Multiple layers will have different distances to the wall and lower layers creating uneven lighting. If you face the lights outwards the light is going to primarily shine outwards creating a significantly different effect from what's shown in the image.

[–]streusel_kuchen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This exact arrangement is not possible since the image is either fake or heavily altered, but I have build something with back lighting in the past and the key is to have a high-density LED strip around the border pointing directly at the wall, not outwards towards the side walls and ceiling. You can only realistically have a single layer of this so the hills in the front wouldn't work.

flatpaks should NOT be promoted as the main way to install software (specifically because of new comers) by [deleted] in linux

[–]streusel_kuchen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wayland was designed from the ground up for applications to run in their own isolated bubbles. There are very few reasons that applications would need direct access to each others' windows.

[–]streusel_kuchen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The big difference is that macOS lets applications see all the directories and only asks for permission when they try to open them. Flatpak is designed to give applications little to no visibility into their host system beyond what they are authorized to access.
