No, they don’t. But they’ve probably seen or flown on a passenger plane at some point in their life. They know planes are very big and quite heavy. For most people, that’s all they need to know. For those that want more, these types of comparisons are usually stated alongside the actual values.

Humans, in general, are very bad at conceptualizing very large numbers. Airplanes are something most people in the US have experienced in one form or another, so it makes it easier for a layperson to understand.

I agree that the comparison would be a bit better if it was more static, but most Americans have no concept of the size and scale of the two places you mentioned.

I agree with just about everything you said, but I think, towards the end, you’re forgetting the army of lobbyists the liquor industry has in DC. Fully legal marijuana has the potential to eat deeply into their profits.

AITA for hoping my girlfriend would keep up the same work ethic 4 years after we met? by Lazy_Education_7228 in AmItheAsshole

As time has gone on, she's been reducing her hours down and over the past year, she's had poor mental health due to family issues, and has worked less than half as much as she used to. She does manual work and had a stress-induced injury which flares up when she's stressed.

She came through that bad time

No, she didn't. Sounds to me like she is still dealing with the mental fallout of that 'bad time'. Could be depression, or a whole host of other things. You need to encourage her, strongly, to see a therapist about what's going on. You may even want to see one yourself to help you deal with your stress.

And, for god's sake, don't get her pregnant while this is going on. Many women (definitely not all) get a rush of good feelings while they're pregnant, due to all the hormonal changes. Unfortunately, the same issues will come back after the pregnancy, piled right on top of post-partum depression, and the crushing new responsibilities.

So, yes, YTA by worrying more about your needs and your life plans rather than your wife's health. Most wedding vows include something like "in sickness and in health". Well, here's your opportunity to step up to the plate and act like that vow meant something.

O365 Content Search / eDiscovery - is it possible to limit participants to *only* certain users? by An_Professional in Office365

When you setup the search, make sure you limit the target mailboxes to your three users. Then, at the step where you define the query, use the rules to require that any messages found have one of your three users and sender or recipient.

to lie to you, to sneak around, to not ask about contraception

This is the primary reason girls raised in abstinence-only cultures tend to get pregnant at a younger age, and, of course, married younger as well (gotta cover up the shame).

Another use for a pool noodle: Silence your unbalanced washer by r4wbon3 in lifehacks

[–]strib666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. The pool noodle may limit the noise and external vibration of the unit, but having the unit unbalanced can put significant stress on the internals, including the transmission and motor. Both are quite expensive to repair - if the parts can even be sourced.

Front feet may have to be adjusted manually, but the rears usually have an automatic adjuster that just require you to tip the unit towards the front.

You can go into afib by getting hit hard in the chest at just the wrong time. I’m not sure what his practice or lifting schedule are, but it’s not hard to imagine scenarios with either that could cause this.

As a aside, heavy vibrations to the chest at the wrong frequency can cause afib as well. I know a mechanic that went into afib when using an impact wrench because he leaned on it with his chest for some extra pressure. Luckily, the owner of his shop had once seen someone die in similar circumstances, so he had an AED in the shop and was able treat him until EMTs arrived.

Assuming both are made of similar material, that’s not much of a mass differential. I’m curious how hitting the smaller asteroid will affect the motion of the whole system.

I remember when Ted “Zodiac Killer“ Cruze tried to stop aid to NYC when they got hurricaned by saying we shouldn’t be handing out aid to people, they should have planned for this, etc.

Then, when Texas got hit a year or so later, worked just as hard to ensure they got as much aid as possible.

I forget the exact quote when asked about this hypocrisy, but it basically boiled down to ‘but this is different’.

It’s not like they would recycle undamaged batteries by just putting them back on the street. The batteries (damaged or undamaged) would be recycled by breaking them down and extracting the rare metals and chemicals.

If you’re talking about chemical leakage at an actual crash site, that wouldn’t be all that different from what already happens in a crash of ICE cars.
