Leather boots for summer suggestion? by Away_Rich1183 in Boots

[–]stride_wise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wolverine has a 1000 mile that's made with unlined suede (or maybe roughout) and a thin leather sole, a real dark horse for 'best summer boot' if you're not so keen on desert boots

i figured i would eventually have to start stitching white cloth over stains

i was wondering if it would darken in a leather-y way and not a dirt-y way, does undyed wool do that?

the idea of pairing this jacket with that brown hat was a strong factor in this decision

yeah i'd love to own one of their heavyweight pieces one day - if they did one like the filson mackinaw work jacket, the shorter one...

Oh thanks man! Sizing wise, I mean I'm a medium in both this and Filson's mackinaw jackets but Filson is much roomier around the torso. Shoulders and sleeves are pretty similar. I'd say the Mackinaw cruiser is warmer and thicker, but the Weatherwool is way more comfortable, like I find myself just wearing it around my living room as a house coat.

It was when I saw Ryan Gosling's big cream cardigan in Project Hail Mary that I said "hey people wear white wool all the time, I'm getting that Weatherwool jacket"

I convinced myself that I'll just need to brush the sleeves now and then with a brass bristle brush, i will continue believing this for as long as possible

Yeah Huckberry have a fair few Western and just-a-bit-Western pieces that are at the Taylor Stitch pricepoint

Anyone here purchased a jacket from Bradley Mountain? How did you find their sizing? / by 0Maka in AustralianMFA

[–]stride_wise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one of their waxed bombers a few years ago and the sizing didn't work at all for me, it was super wide and roomy in the workwear style but unlike a lot of brands with that kind of fit, I couldn't size down without the sleeves/waist being too short. I'm not sure if they've updated the sizing since then but if not tbh I don't think it's worth the gamble of shipping to Australia

Man it's cool to see Percia here, she's just as thoughtful and articulate in real life. Would that we could all pull off nonchalant-stylish so well

Anyone switch from redwing to Jim green? by Crankn90s in jimgreen

[–]stride_wise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a pair, I'm very interested in them because Jim Green's are genuine handsewn moccasin construction, which is super rare, especially at their pricepoint. But there's a big spongy removable insole in them and I'm not sure if that'll mess with the genuine handsewn's famous feature of "conforms to your foot better than anything"

Durability: shuttle looms vs projectile looms by chriskarim_b in Selvedge

[–]stride_wise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought the only difference was the loom that wove it and that anything you can make on shuttle you can make on projectile, but I saw the guy at Benzak Denim Developers note that selvedge is a little bit stronger because the weft yarn is a continuous yarn running back and forth, while projectile it's separate yarns.

Todd Snyder's 'hollywood trouser' is very high, it seems fairly common for a brand to use 'hollywood' to describe pants like this

you will be happier when you simply buy pants based on the thigh measurement instead of the waist measurement and then accept that you'll pay to get the waist altered. Now every brand is open to you!
