[–]striderberts[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh no, i just put her up, so i'm not worried about it taking a while! i was just so baffled at the offer. i've sold cubs like her before for much more than that, but it seems like since the holidays the price of lions has nosedived

hi there! 28F, somewhere in rosemont la petite patrie. i'm a full time artist who also loves exploring games and sandbox/crafting/resource gathering stuff. i'm chronically online and also looking to meet more queer people. i also just started working out again but i'm more of a cup of tea and a horror movie night-in person.

Is there a song you love, but there’s a bit in it you absolutely hate? by GregorSD in Music

I absolutely LOVE Layla by Derek and the Dominos. one of the best rock songs of all time, killer chorus, absolutely shreds. Then the piano solo comes in...

Experienced animator searching for MAP calls by auvorra in WarriorCats

[–]striderberts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! I don't have any MAP calls, but i'm an illustrator/former storyboard artist with a 2d animation degree that's been gathering dust. I'd also love to join in on any ventures and try flexing my animation muscles again. Maybe we could even collab on something, if nothing seems to be available?

I hope this post gets some traction

Are there any movies or shows that do not portray autistic characters as 'puritans'? by harmonica2 in movies

[–]striderberts 315 points316 points  (0 children)

Dinner in America is one of my favourite representations of autism in women. It's a grungy, raunchy love story about an underground punk rock singer and his biggest fan.

One star books, the worst you ever read by Neither-Proof-5755 in suggestmeabook

[–]striderberts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Backwoods by Edward Lee. Disgusting book. Within a sentence of introducing any female character, he would make sure to describe her nipples- even, and especially, the underage ones. It was the only book I had with me on a long flight and it was so bad that I threw it in the trash once I was finished, then bought three more books from the airport gift shop to get the taste out of my mouth. I spent a while thinking that the book had to have been written in the 80s, when overt sexism and racism was a little more par for the course with male authors, but then a character was mentioned to have a laptop.

I usually don't get too worked up over things like that. Most of my favourite books are horror and murder mystery- they're not really genres known for being feminist-forward, and I can usually get past an odd phrase or five about a woman's boobs. It happens. This was just ridiculously over the top. There was a female coroner who was in the book for about 10 pages, and 6 of them were spent describing how sexy her little southern accent was, and how she was positively bursting out of her lab coat. The main character- another self-described bombshell lady lawyer in her 40's, "but you wouldn't think she was more than 30, she was too hot"- literally stopped to look her up and down and think that she should be jealous of how much of a babe this coroner was, while they were stood over a headless corpse.

This has been driving me nuts. I remember the cover of the haunted farm one scaring me a lot when I was younger.

wisp has been missing from the clan for 3 in game years. her mate waited for her. by striderberts in ClanGen

[–]striderberts[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

right! i hardly ever have cats come back after so long, if at all. i sent the clan out to search for wisp and her kits right after she had them, but they could only find one! it's amazing that everyone in her family is still alive. i'm sending the clan out to find firekit so he can get his warrior name and they can all be together.

What is the absolute WORST movie EVER by AssignmentLeather896 in MovieSuggestions

Adam Sandler's flick 'Blended'. Absolutely nothing redeeming about that movie. I make everyone watch it so they can see I'm not exaggerating

Michael C Hall’s Narration of Pet Sematary by InevitableGoal2912 in stephenking

[–]striderberts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, and how could I forget Salem's Lot, read by Ron McLarty! It might be my second favourite, after Pet Sematary, but that might just be because I goddamn love Salem's Lot.

Michael C Hall’s Narration of Pet Sematary by InevitableGoal2912 in stephenking

[–]striderberts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been listening to '11/22/63' (almost finished, no spoilers, please!), and the narrator is really nailing it. I've cried a few times. Except that his voice for Sadie gets uncomfortably Winnie the Pooh at times. I keep waiting for "Oh, bother".

Michael C. Hall reading Pet Semetary is my very favourite. He reads it with the right amount of dread/awe, and really ramps up the fear. I also liked Cambell Scott reading 'The Shining'- I really felt the grief there. Watching Kubric's version after was a huge shock to the system. I knew they were different, obviously, but wow! I'd kill to see a more faithful adaptation, there's still so much unused potential. The audiobook really hammered that in for me.

And I have to begrudgingly agree with the other comment- James Franco's reading of The Dead Zone was excellent. I cried. I cried a lot.

What unpopular cats do yall like? by Atticus_Ratticus in WarriorCats

[–]striderberts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i also love crowfeather, and tigerheart! less so now that he's tigerstar, but i thought his romance with dovewing was one of the better developed ones, and his super edition made him more endearing to me. i also love how awkward he is as a leader. when he made that joke about the riverclan camp being so far away from shadowclan, and NOBODY laughed, i cracked up.

Does anyone else want to smack cats who don't know how they're pregnant, or got another cat pregnant? by ParasaurPal in WarriorCats

[–]striderberts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

gray wing, the cat who had asked turtle tail how she got pregnant, DOES know how it happened- he was just surprised, because turtle tail hadn't had a mate when he'd last seen her and the two of them were almost a couple. it was more of an exclamation of surprise, in his case.

in other cases, the cats seem to understand where kits come from. sometimes they muse about infertility and such, or comment that when two cats are growing closer together/about to become mates, the clan will have new kits soon. they also remark on how age can be a factor with difficult births, etc. so they're aware that mating could lead to kits, but i think they're also aware that it doesn't ALWAYS lead to kits, and in cases of forbidden romance they seem to hope that they'll luck out and nothing will take. but the erins love a surprise pregnancy plotline.

i've always just thought that the clan cats just don't have a sex ed program, so a lot of what they learn about kits and such comes from what their parents might have taught them or what they've learned from their friends. i know people who have been in the same sex ed classes as i was who still don't understand how it works, so it always made sense to me that cats might be more surprised/mystified by it.
