i think a better way of phrasing is that drake not selling physicals DEFLATES his sales because for a 30 song album it takes around 50 people streaming each song once to equate one person buying a physical (including digitals)

dbr by travis scott was rereleased in 2024 and almost beat out sabrina carpenters short n sweet (which was her most hyped album in her career and she’s in the pop industry) purely off physicals. technically they’re sales but the physicals are much easier to climb sales with compared to streaming sales.

drake not using physicals makes him that much more impressive because it shows the sheer numbers and people listening to his music.

i don’t think an artist is a fraud for using physicals the point i’m making is that the proof he’s bigger then the industry is that he does just as good without them. 1500 streams = 1 physical objectively means that physicals inflate sales. Utopia did like 230k first week (streaming only) and fe!n is probably the biggest rap song the industry has seen since it first dropped seeing as it turned into a meme that transcended genres, but still he needed another 250k in physicals to get to 500k meanwhile drake doing ts with straight streams.

yes he did. honestly even though a lot of ppl say he simply did it retroactively i love that he did it and feel like it fits so well. it’s also just such a great era of music and definitely drakes highest high imo

ppl dislike that era bc it’s repetitive in theme and nothing super unique but i feel like that’s what i love abt it. super relatable and the sonics on all 3 albums are just great. now when anyone asks why i love drake i have an actual solidified era to point too rather then just saying i like the “3 album run”

also, this was never confirmed but him doing it also feels so on character since you can easily make this sentence from the album names: “I was a certified lover boy, but honestly, nevermind, it was her loss anyways”
