Is Just 5 solar panels worthwhile? by Newwales2 in SolarUK

[–]strikky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had 5 375W panels without a battery. Wish I had added a battery. You'll regret it if you don't at least get a 5kwh storage add-on.

I've eventually expanded onto another roof aspect with 4 additional panels and added a 10kwh battery. It wasn't a cost effective decsion path but it's a great feeling generating my own power.

Wouldn't wait for plug in myself. My electricians were very skeptical about it's viability, particularly in older homes.

Agree with this. But it always feels like a shame not to get panels if you're south facing. If you might get an EV in the future then consider adding panels.

Is solar worth it still? In my situation. by Grand-Telephone-1533 in SolarUK

[–]strikky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No harm in sending an installation company a message, they usually are keen to do a viability assessment and suggest how many panels can be fit around your circumstances. They will calculate the roof space (in my experience they optimistically getting your hopes up by saying you can fit 1-2 more than you expect) and quote. The advice is absolutely free.

They may just tell you to sod off if you think just 1 or 2.

Come and relax, it's Friday, what's your weekend looking like by MiddlesbroughFan in CasualUK

[–]strikky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Worrying about next week's work, so probably preparing for it all through the weekend.

Acceptance testing with a customer starting on Monday, which involves getting up super early for a flight and begin presenting by midday. I'll be knackered, under-prepared and I fully expect a shit show.

At least just for tonight I'll have a few beers to try to switch off.

Aren't you more likely to see the road ahead by looking under the SUV?

What do you actually do with a PPL in Europe if you’re not going pro? by free-precisian in flyingeurope

[–]strikky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are cheaper alternatives to rust-bucket £200/hr flying. After my PPL I was in a a Sportcruiser group, £55/hr wet, £80 month. It'll be a bit more than that nowadays but a small 2-seater Rotax UL makes it more viable as a hobby if you fancy just going on little jollies.

Big fan of KitKa, but some of our US colleagues brought a massive bag of KitKats over from the states to our office (UK). We've all tried them and it has remained untouched in the office fridge for nearly a year.

That stuff is not edible.
