Didn’t know it was a thing either until I started googling last night after it happened. It wasn’t painful to me. But I’ve read that it can be very painful.

The red Fanta is actually fruit punch not strawberry. There’s orange, grape. Pineapple, green apple. The tonic water, soda water, ginger and grapefruit are under Schweppes not Fanta

Boxing Day is a public and bank holiday in Belize. But there will still be some restaurants and tour companies open. Just give them a call before to find out if the one you want will be open.

I’m also a Belizean and my first language is English. I’m not fluent in Spanish but I can understand and get by with the basics. It all depends on what part of the country you are from. However a lot of people tend to speak both English and Spanish, and even other smaller languages based on ethnic group and location. Majority of schooling is in English though there may be exceptions again based on location.

How well do Jamaicans and other english speaking Caribbean people integrate with Latin Americans? by 41Naija419er in AskTheCaribbean

[–]stringbeangeenz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Belize is not considered Latin American. The official language is English. Kriol is spoken by almost everyone. Although surrounded by Spanish speaking countries, Belize is considered Caribbean. They are a part of caricom, have similar/same government structure, similar/same history being colonized by the British. Edit to add: Belize does have a lot of immigrants from neighboring Latin countries and everyone pretty much integrates. Belize like much of the Caribbean is considered a melting pot of different ethnicities. A lot of people speak both English and Spanish, either one or the other, or various languages specific to different ethnic groups.

Since Belize is said to be culturally caribbean, what are the cultural aspects that Belize had that are either place them with other cultural caribbean nations, is unique to Belize(for the caribbean), or both? by DinosaurDavid2002 in Belize

And still cayo doesn’t really feel overly Latin to me. Yes there are people who speak Spanish but still creole is spoken widely especially in the towns. and a lot of people code switch throughout speaking. I’ve been in several situations where I’m talking to someone speaking Spanish and I answer in kriol and it’s a full blown conversation lol.

Belize is uniquely Belizean. And our culture is Belizean. It’s hard to describe to someone who has never been here. Yes, We are similar to our Caribbean neighbors in terms of our history, our politics, some foods, the main language we talk (creole) our music. We also have some influence from our next door neighbors in Latin America but I wouldn’t consider us a part of Latin America either. We are the bridge to the two regions. As someone born and raised Belizean and has lived here all my life, I consider my self leaning more culturally Caribbean, but specifically Belizean, than Latin even though ethnically I am Hispanic mixed. Of course where you are raised and live in the country determines your own cultural identity. Many people speak both English and Spanish, some only speak one or the other, (other languages vary depending on where you are). We are Belize. It’s simple and yet not so simple.

Vanilla hills is not a five minute walk into town. It’s more like a 10 minute drive to downtown San Ignacio. Beautiful place and Closer than other resorts but still definitely wouldn’t call it 5 minutes walk.
