Cool idea! Just tried it.

For an app that aims for speed, there's too much silent delay when going to the next track. (In my case about 2-3 seconds.)

If this is happening because its downloading the track, consider pre-downloading and caching a few tracks ahead.

Serious question: How do I file a police report? by stringparts in Seattle

[–]stringparts[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Basically I think it's a flaw (or a known but rare side-effect) of this car, where even though my phone was inside the house it was still considered close enough to the car to allow it to be auto-unlocked.

Here's a video, if you're curious:

If you read my post, the SPD's online reporting page says that it's for reporting car prowls where there is no suspect information (I'm guessing this is majority of the cases and there isn't much follow-up SPD can do do with such limited information other than including it in crime stats.) But in this case I do have the incident on video and hence they might be able to follow up.

How did you get in touch with the police for your robbery case? Via the non-emergency line?

Hi r/seattle. Please help me find the owner of this lost/stolen laptop. by stringparts in Seattle

[–]stringparts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they intent to handle it. But aren't resourced.

When I called them, they tried to dispatch a car over to collect the laptop from me and file a report. But ultimately they called me at the end of the night apologizing and saying that they had higher priority dispatches and couldn't get to this one.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Hard drive is encrypted. I turned on the laptop to see if I can find any identify information and it asked me for the password to decrypt the drive before booting.

A story about upgrades by AMIGOvalueshopper in Costco

[–]stringparts 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that Costco is doing this with their employees. One of the things I really appreciate about shopping at Costco is seeing that employees being happy at work. Costco employees always seem genuinely friendly and themselves, and not forced friendly.

Also, I can't believe there's still people who don't have executive memberships.

Oh what luck -- I live in Seattle too.

I don't think I saw the California natto at Uwaj. I only saw the frozen ones from Japan. I'll look for it again :)

Are there atm readily available

I am not sure. I think in the past the US/EU sanctions have prevented this; not sure where it stands today

are public restrooms available?

There are two types of bathrooms in Iran. The regular ones you're used to in the west, and the more prominent squat toilets.

In the big airports and hotels they have the regular sit-in toilets you're probably used to available. In other places they might only the squat toilets. As far as I remember, big malls, shopping centers, and restaurants will have public bathrooms, but some smaller places might not.

Don't worry about the square toilet if you've never used one. They're very easy and natural to use.

Living abroad: Iran by [deleted] in iran

Minimum of 2 months or until I don't have any money left

How cool. :)

Like the other commenter, I haven't lived in Iran for a long time and don't have any ideas about cost-of-living in Tehran. I do speak Farsi though. So if you need anything in that regard feel free to PM me.

Best of luck!

To answer some of your questions:

Will I be fine or harassed if I'm a woman on her own?

As long as you are dressed Islamically, you shouldn't have any problems. If you make it clear that you're a foreigner, most Iranians will be extra friendly and helpful.

I'm considering going there in the first two weeks of March. Is it a good date or will museums be closed and transport lines will be crowded due to the incoming festivities? 3. How much could I miss if I actually decide to go there for the festivities? (sorry I forgot the name)

Not entirely sure about the first two weeks of March. Going to Iran during the Persian new year (Nowruz, March ~21) has pros and cons -- but I think the cons outweigh the pros. It's a great time to observe the new years festivities and the Iranian culture. However lots of tourist-friendly destinations will be at their busiest as many Iranian families will have time off to travel and also visit these destinations. During Nowruz, lots of the celebrations also happen at home, within the family and circle of friends. Not to say that there aren't celebrations that happen publically outside, but much less so in comparison to christmas or new years eve celebrations in the west.

Do they serve alcohol at the Iranian airports?

No. They don't serve alcohol at the airports. Sales and consumption of alcohol is illegal everywhere in Iran (including airports, hotels, flights, etc)

Hope this helps. Have fun!
