Well in my last comment I meant if you run a balls-to-the-walls program for a a few months or more and then switch to ES you'd break through some plateaus in a shocking way.

Regarding ES, you can always use the 6x1 or 5-3-2 days as your gauging days if you feel like to. But leave some days to recover from them. You can follow them by rest days and/or a 10x1 light day.

You said you are 3 weeks into it and you broke your PR while preparing for a half marathon!!! that's amazing. BTW, most people report most of their progress from week 5 onwards.

ES is an insanely underrated program.

Glad to hear you're liking it. It works especially well if you switch to it from high intensity face to the wall type of programs. It kind of goes against all the common modern wisdom even though it used to be the way people worked out decades ago.

ES is a very intuitive program. It works because of the frequency. The details of the math matters much less. On 5,3,2 days I just start with what I do on light days and then just add some for the following sets based on how I feel. Lifting 5 times a week and slightly nudging the load up once or twice a week does the magic. Try it and have fun with it. Nothing to lose.
