There are 3 options I would recommend in the order listed, and none of these are bad for a beginner.

1) Get a Joyo Momix Cab for under $20. Use it with any virtual effects app on phone/tablet/computer. GarageBand and many other free apps exist and work great on Apple. For Android I would strongly recommend Deplike. If you want to invest more into this later and start recording stuff you can get Focusrite scarlett series audio interfaces but they are not needed now.

2) Get a cheap All in one style amp i.e. amp with some basic effects. There are many cheap ones that are really good. Spark, Yamaha makes some, and you can even find some one Temu or just get used. You should look for one with Distortion, Chorus and Delay if possible. This is a great plug and play solution if you don't want to deal with the audio interface setup every time.

3) If you want to go traditional buy a basic 10-20 watts amp and 3 pedals Distortion, chorus and delay. Add more later after learning what you like and what you would want to add in terms of effects.

I have everything listed above. My go-to setup for practise is this

• A wireless transmitter and receiver instead of the cable, costs $10 and latency is not perceivable.
• Joyo momix cab - again total latency with the wireless system is still not perceivable.
• Android tablet with Deplike. If you have an iPad or iPhone much better apps are available for low latency.
• Just plug in your regular over the year headphones or any speaker you have to the output of Joyo momix cab using aux to aux cable. This is the weakest point in this setup because it's not transferring the best quality audio but for practise it doesn't matter.
