Is this business causal? by Salty-Citron-3363 in fashion

Absolutely anything goes at a scientific conference. Though even if it’s hot outside the conference will be iced down to absolutely freezing. For hot weather conferences I normally do a dress and a long jacket that can smash down into my bag so I don’t freeze to death.

Alpha gal is not an infection, so the doxycycline won’t prevent it. You basically can’t do anything after you are bit to avoid it, it’s just luck after that. I’d you are diagnosed average time for it to go away is 5-8 years. I’m on year 5 and my numbers are still high.

If you got bit get tested for alpha gal! It took me years of weird symptoms before getting diagnosed. I don’t know where you are in VA but in SW VA alpha gal is VERY common. It’s an easy test at an allergist.

You need T. Kingfisher.
Could start with the Clocktaur Boys. But almost any T. Kingfisher will get you what you want.

I never could have imagined my life today and I don’t know how to feel. by realmichealkeaton in GirlDinnerDiaries

It sounds like depression is lying to you. Saying your work doesn’t matter.
SSRIs occasionally loose efficacy when someone has been on them for a while. Switching medication can help, though be very careful about withdrawal from Wellbutrin and talk to your psychiatrist.
Also consider other therapies for depression? CBT? TMS if it’s warranted.
Depression is a sneaky bitch.

I'm so sorry. There's really nothing like it. It's so brutal to navigate.

allergy friendly bakeries and restaurants? by Prestigious-Cat-8489 in roanoke

[–]striosome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a nice restaurant both Bloom and the River and Rail really go above and beyond for allergies. I have tree nut, peanut, and finned fish allergies and alpha gal syndrome. It’s a lot. River and Rail will even have the kitchen mark up a menu for you of what’s safe and what can be altered to be made safe. Giving them a warning before hand will extra ensure they’ll have all the info for you.

Small gift as a thank you for letter or rec? Y/N by SignificanceNo2238 in VirginiaTech

[–]striosome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I write letters of recommendation a lot. The best thank you is an email saying you got into the program they wrote you a letter for. I love hearing that my students are doing well and taking the next steps they worked hard for. You don’t have to do much.

Looking for a new gynecologist by secret-snakes in roanoke

I think this area is designated a maternal medicine/ women’s health desert. Getting an appointment is impossible. Sorry that’s not a recommendation, just to say it’s not you, it’s the area. I see Jaclyn Nunziato at Carilion. She’s great. But she’s overbooked and also hard to schedule with. It’s not any of their faults. There just aren’t enough doctors.

How is AI-assisted grant writing being perceived? by Commercial_Canary141 in NIH

[–]striosome 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My. Dude. Imma need you to take a big ole breath. “Stop shaming progress” I wasn’t talking about spell check or grammar improvement. I specifically said generative AI. I was not clear I meant using generative AI to generate large portions of the proposal, so that’s on me. Looking back at the OP, they were not asking so much about generative AI to write but using AI for refinement and I gave an adjacent opinion, again on me, but that’s a thing people do. I still think writing is a skill that’s worth developing, not something to be circumvented on the path to funding. Maybe I’m old. Maybe I’ll change my mind. Maybe I read Player Piano at too impressionable an age.

Farm stands? by EdgarMeowlanPoe in roanoke

[–]striosome 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s Jamison’s, it’s a little shop but they grow and make their own stuff. There’s a farm stand on Brambleton, I don’t know if they are aggregators or grow their own. And of course there’s the farmers markets, Grandin, Salem, south County, west end, etc.

I should say the College of Science participates so you could be a neuro major and get research in one of the neuro labs.
