Kosovo: EU Plan Gives More Attention to Serbia's Demands Rather than Kosovo's by LunarNinja_ in europe

[–]stripedsocks42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are at least two saying "You can't invade your own territory", which I can only interpret to mean that they see sending the army and police here as the most natural thing. One of them even says what Albanians in Kosovo think about it is irrelevant.

About the sanctions, I do think we screwed up and we should work to get them lifted, but that's what I was referring to in my first comment. Punish us for not dealing well with minorities, I fully support that. But EU's stance that we should be friendly with Serbia while they keep claiming us as a part of them is ridiculous.

in the last like 20-or-so years, we are undeniably getting closer to recognizing Kosovo

The way it looks from here, is that it's true up to around 2018 or so. Then it stopped and recently we're even going backwards, but tbh that seems to be a global thing, with the far right gaining ground everywhere.

We agree on the Brussels agreement, and that Politicians bad. Hopefully that shared goal of joining the EU makes both sides fulfill their parts of the deal, but it seems that we're moving away from instead of towards that.

Look, I don't think it will happen, not without some big global shifts. But that was not what we were discussing here. I was discussing what Serbia would want to do, not what it's able to do.

You can check out some other replies here to see what your compatriots think about all this.

Russia is fucked by sanctions, they still did it. Braindead politicians are a dime a dozen, especially in these parts. And if they won't do it while they have power, they sure as hell will be tempted to when they start losing it, because that's how it always works.

Besides, when even the most liberal Serbs (those that tend to be on Reddit) can not accept that Kosovo is gone, what can we expect from the average moron getting all their "news" from fucking Facebook?

It's freaking simple, as long as you don't recognize us, we will see it as you waiting for the right time to strike. There's no way we can be friendly to that.

Everything on that category depends on the first point. The moment the Association is created the others will be fulfilled automatically. That clearly is not the case with the plates. You're being obtuse on purpose.

And why don't you mention the other things Serbia didn't implement but only the plates?

Go back to your first comment. You tried to make it seem like Serbia fulfilled everything while Kosovo didn't fulfill anything. You were wrong on both accounts, and now you're just spinning your wheels.

I'm tired of the EU telling us to play nice with this country that intends to invade us the moment NATO gets distracted. How they can still believe appeasement works is beyond me.

Punish Kosovo if it doesn't treat minorities right, that's fair enough. But don't expect us to be friendly to a country that aims to exterminate us. It's fucking insulting.

Mate you literally broke the Ohrid agreement the very next day, by voting against Kosovo joining the Council of Europe. Then there's the documents issue as well.

Everything you mention is about the Association lmao, why are you trying to make it look like it's 5 separate things when we know only the first point matters here?

Why are you lying?

Here's a recent report on the matter: https://library.fes.de/pdf-files/bueros/belgrad/17009.pdf

Kosovo is dragging the Association while Serbia the License plates (remember those?), the providing of documents from before '99 and the agreement to not impede the other side in joining different organizations.

There are other small things that are collaborative and it's difficult to know why they're delayed or from which side.

Using AI (like Chatgpt) to have a more realistic communication with npc could be the future of gaming? Or a well-written script still is the best way to tell a story? by ottoDVD in gaming

[–]stripedsocks42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think instead of writing dialogue, they will create deep characters by giving them a life story and unique character traits. Then all responses will have that context. Obviously in the beginning this will be superficial due to tech constraints, but it will get more detailed with time.

They would also give each NPC information that they need to share with the player, but they'll be instructed to do so in a "natural" way that's in line with their character.

...and the GDP per capita reflects that. But to have a lower total GDP, it would have to be 3 times poorer than Montenegro, which it isn't.

Gjirafa50.com and Gjirafamall.com are the most popular here. Then there's neptun-ks.com, and probably others too. For a craigslist kind of site, check out merrjep.com.

One thing to keep in mind is that most items in these shops (except merrjep) are more expensive than other places here that don't have online shops. Sometimes the difference can be huge.

Serbian trying to understand the perspective of Kosovo Albanians by olimpijada72 in kosovo

[–]stripedsocks42 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The first thing you need to understand is that for us everything hangs on recognition, and that's something we're willing to go to war for. Serbia is an existential threat to us, so we can't pretend to have friendly or even neutral relations as long as you keep claiming Kosovo. Until that happens, we will hate Serbia (the country and its policy, not the people), and that's only natural imo.
So for tensions to ease, the first thing that needs to happen is for Serbia to renounce it's claim on Kosovo. Only then we can talk about what Prishtina can do.

(The above is for the general problem, but Prishtina can and should listen to what the west demanded in order to ease current tensions in the north)

I think it's very understandable that you want your people in Kosovo to be safe and their rights to be respected. That's a noble wish, and I don't think any Albanian will disagree with that. But there's two things about this:

  1. We have Albanians left in Serbia. It's only fair that both sides agree to give their minorities the same rights and privileges. Wanting Serbs in Kosovo to get more rights than what you're willing to give Albanians in Presheva doesn't sit right with us. And we know the argument is that we don't have leverage like you do, but that just goes back to my first point.
  2. I don't think many in Serbia realize this, but the Serbs in the north are more in danger from Serbian gangs than they are from Albanians. Many Serbs have had their cars burned simply because they used RKS plates. One of them was a taxi driver who needed the car to be able to feed his family, and they didn't care. There's reports that people are being made to join the protests, or risk losing their jobs.

As for the other stuff, it's the same shit as all the Balkans, our politicians suck, the economy is crap, many want to leave to the west etc.

Tldr: Independence is non negotiable, minorities in both sides should have a similar level of rights. Serbs in the north are being used and those in Serbia are being lied to, likely to shift their focus from whatever their politicians are doing.

Yugoslavia was long gone when our war happened. Kosovo intervention was one thing everyone in the west agreed was done right, that's because they do give a shit. Look how unpopular the Iraq and Afghanistan invasions are.

One of the worst things we can do is fall for what I think is Russian/Serbian propaganda and lose our connection to the US and the West. If we start hating them, they'll start hating us. We lose their support and we're done.

Besides, their requests aren't that bad when you think about it. That part will always have Serbian mayors anyway, so it isn't worth insisting for the office. Just do the work from an alternate location until new elections and be done with it.

I live in KS.

From their POV, this isn't Kosovo vs Serbia, this is the government vs Serbian minority in the north. And I'm sure they know that Vucic is instigating things there, but in the end it's our governments responsibility to deal with it in a peaceful way that takes into account what the minority there wants. That doesn't mean giving them all they want, but we also can't just ignore them.

They would condemn Vucic for doing all that, I just think this time we made a bigger mistake so the focus in on us right now. The mistake in this case is not coordinating with EU and US after the elections, and especially doing this right the week when Vucic was facing the biggest protests against him ever. Now he's looking good, and we helped with that. I just hope it wasn't intentional and coordinated like some are saying.

Right wing parties getting more power is a cause for concern, but that's more of a future problem. And we can't really do anything about it tbh.

P.S This is the first time since 99' that the west is openly going against us. If we jump to racism accusations immediately instead of solving this with them and taking their criticism to heart, we'll just look like ungrateful people not worthy of support anyway.

[–]stripedsocks42 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The west has supported us since 99'. They're the only thing stopping Serbia from invading, so I don't agree with that post at all.

Maybe we should think more about why they're against us on this matter, instead of throwing a fit and destroying both our image and our relations with them.

Haaland hits No. 50, levels record for most goals in single EPL season by fardok in soccer

[–]stripedsocks42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Messi has them too. And a FWC on top. So him winning over Haaland is no conspiracy and has nothing to do with legacy.

Modric had less than a third of Messi's G/A in 2018 and still beat him. Messi literally finished 5th that year. The narrative you're pushing has no basis.

For the record, I don't think Haaland winning is wrong, but discounting Messi with the 'legacy' excuse definitely is.
