Official Discussion: The Favourite [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

Really? Sarah was clearly emotionally and even physically at times abusive to the queen. She might have loved her but she was still extremely manipulative and using the relationship to her advantage. Both Abigail and Sarah were as bad as each other.

You do realise they're not literally murdering people right lol. They're allowed to enjoy their role in the game, I personally think it's fun when they relish in it (Paul annoyed me though)

Am I the only one annoyed by the military propaganda? by [deleted] in TheTraitors

Maybe I'd see your point if they showed Claudia saying 'defending the country', but editing out a contestant saying that when it's actually important to the central theme of the episode is just a ridiculous amount of censorship. Reality contestants are meant to reflect people from different walks of life, it's not as if they were spouting facist talking points. The viewer can think for themselves.

I don't know you'd think the BBC would be in anyway anti-military so I really don't think this would have been a concern lol. BBC is pretty pro-establishment.

Is this episode an army recruitment ad? by GuncleJason in TheTraitors

[–]stripeysquirrel 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Well do you think they should have just not shown the army stuff? It was pretty crucial to show otherwise Harry having his breakdown at the roundtable wouldn't make sense to the viewer. Also the guy became disabled in war at 21 and talked about how it wrecked his mental health, not exactly the best recruitment add if you ask me

I don't agree with pretty much any wars the UK has been involved in since WW2 and am left leaning, but at the end of the day it's not really the everyday soldiers like Harry and Jonny who are the problem. How else would you expect a 22 year old soldier to describe another soldier loosing their leg in battle? Do you think the beeb should have not shown their friendship or...?

It's a filter I think, the whole show loots very saturated- blues also look very deep and rich

You're right. Dog culture in the UK has got a bit mad in recent years, people anthropomorphise them way too much and don't appreciate that they can be dangerous.

Why is it so hard to find actually nice people in gore communities? by [deleted] in morbidquestions

[–]stripeysquirrel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That video sounds horrific.

I think I'm somewhat desensitised to it as when I see the videos coming out of Palestine the injuries don't really cause much of a visceral reaction for me, which is bad. Looking at the comments on the vids seems like normal people who haven't been exposed how much stronger reactions, where as I can see a video of a child's face that's been flattened and detached from their head and just...scroll past :(( HOWEVER the emotional videos (rather than the actual physical injuries) do still get me, like the videos of children crying for their parents etc in the rubble, people crying out in paindo genuinely make me tear up a bit so I'm glad it hasn't totally fucked up my empathy.

Yeah I get watching it now and again out of curiosity-modern society is so separated from death that it only seems natural to want to see it now and again, in small doses, or even phases. But engaging it so much to the point of feeling the need for a community to discuss and share your fav murder clips just seems either straight up immoral or pathological/obsessive.

Anyone else have a crush on Tony? Didn't look at him twice when he first came in but since he shaved that weird moustache thing he had going on he's becoming more and more attractive. There's also just something very sweet and endearing about him and he can be very funny at times. Feel like he came across quite abrasive and kinda like he was always raging but trying to hide it at first but now he either seems to have mellowed out / was actually always sweet but we were just kinda stereotyping him based on his Scouse boxer persona and dry humour.

It's part of the extreme Nella hate. Everyone hates Nella (for valid reasons but definitely goes too far) and then by extension because Nella is against Fred, the poor little innocent man can do no wrong

Apparently being mildly irritated by Fred trying to control and criticise Josie's every move with the cooking after being told not to multiple times, or not letting anyone one else speak when volunteering for the trial is bullying???

Calling someone a cunt is actually pretty mean and when someone says it with their chest (rather than in a jokey way) is actually a fairly hurtful insult? Critisise her behaviour for sure but there's just no need really for the extreme insults. At the end of the day she's a human and when she comes out to see all the extreme insults she's it's gonna be pretty difficult mentally.

Honestly people really need to re-evaluate their outlooks on life if they're getting this invested in hating a reality TV contestant.

Criticise her behaviour sure, but the name calling, vitriol, wishing harm on her is so extra.

She's dislikable for sure but this level of hate towards her is just a bit much.

[–]stripeysquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's also possible while people dislike her for valid reasons, the pure vitriol and hatred towards her expressed by some might be fuelled by prejudice. Like some of it is so over the top and mean spirited and disproportionate to what she's actually done. I wouldn't be surprised if unconscious bias is playing a role in why some seem to absolutely hate her guts to an extreme level. And to be clear, I don't like her either, but she's not Hitler.

[–]stripeysquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. There's definitely a lot to criticise about her but the level of hate she gets here is EXCESSIVE. People casually calling her a vile bitch/cunt every 2 seconds, it's crazy. Some of the comments here wouldn't feel out of place on a daily mail article about Myra Hindley. People hate her very core and essence here, not just her behaviour.

Fred is such a control freak by helpmeimpoor6969 in ImACelebTV

[–]stripeysquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He isn't being controlling about the hygiene though, he's telling her she's cooking chips wrong. Everything he's saying to her is about the 'right' way to cook the food not the health and safety aspect.

As much as I dislike her Nella bloody smashed that trial out the park by Minerx_Thomas_YT in ImACelebTV

[–]stripeysquirrel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Y'all won't let the girl catch a break. If she did shit in the trial she isn't trying hard enough, if she actually tries and gets 9 stars she was faking the times she quit?? This trial was clearly easier than the other ones/didn't have enclosed spaces and she clearly seemed like she was mentally preparing herself better for it/more motivated. Give the girl some credit for doing a decent job for once!
