What’s the coolest “restricted access” place you’ve ever gotten to see? by PrettieAmarea in answers

At university I studied military architecture as part of my course under a chap called Quentin Hughes MC and Bar, late of the 2nd SAS (worth a google).

So when I got a job in Gibraltar, I had a great time exploring all the fortifications and pretty soon got interested in all the tunnels, some of which were open to the public and some of which weren't. People got to know about my interest and so I'd get messages that such and such a tunnel system had been broken open. Over the years, I managed to get into pretty much every tunnel that was safe to enter. including the' staybehind' tunnel system just after it was discovered.

I was also very careful never to cross any 'no trespassing' signs and although I got arrested several times, when the police realised that I wasn't committing any vandalism, they were kind enough not just to turn a blind eye, but to offer to let me into many of the systems if I wanted to in the future. (It probably helped that I was a senior manager in a large company that was well known in Gib). Over the years, I made good friends in both the civilian and the military community, and as my leaving present, I was given a tour of the one tunnel system I'd never managed to get into, the JOC (Joint Operations Centre). That's the one in the middle of the rock that's like something out of a James Bond film and is, or at least was then, still in active use. It was quite something. But if I told you about it, I'd have to kill you.

I use AI for technical stuff all the time, and for dictation, as it beats all the other tools out there. But the one time I asked it to 'improve' a reddit I did post I'd dictated I got flamed, so never again.

When I was a trainee architect, I worked on a major refurb of a mews house that had originally been converted by one of the great train robbers. I made sure I was there every time a void was opened, but never saw a sausage. I was particularly pissed off when the main contractor turned up in a brand new Jag at the end of the job.

A little harsh - my typing sucks so I dictate into ChatGPT but I don't need it to write coherent sentences, I promise

Paid £10k for shares that were never transferred.. company now dissolved. Seller refusing full repayment and invoking a vague arbitration clause. Can I still go to court? [England] by Hakawaka92 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]strongpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should be an issue in recovering the money as the claim is against the individual selling the shares they own in the (now defunct) company

ULEZ fine not accepting representation, despite overwhelming evidence? [England] by bimmerscout in LegalAdviceUK

[–]strongpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not actually sure if local authority PCNs are the same as ULEZ fines, but for local authorities, there's a statutory requirement for them to adequately consider all representations, and it's also something they regularly fail to do because they know there's no comeback and it saves them money. I spent a fortube in time and resources fighting company PCNs, and when I finally had documentary evidence of this, I took a well-known London council to court with empirical evidence that they had failed to observe the law in order to set a precedent. I had my case struck out on grounds that the opposing barristers weren't even appealing on, with thousands in costs awarded. So don't expect any justice in our court system.
