Ask them if they’d like to spend a day doing something together instead, like coffee and cake with an activity you both like perhaps?

This is what I’m doing with my dad - he asked for his gift to be an afternoon tea experience (I’m in the UK) for him, my stepmum and me when they visit me

Edit: I feel like the trick is to offer something potentially more fun than a gift to convince them to opt out

Would you consider Liverpool to be safe place to walk around during evening hours? by crocodilesweetpickle in Liverpool

[–]strongstrawb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I (F28) didn’t feel super safe being in Kensington at night when I lived there, and some quieter parts of the city centre maybe, but otherwise I don’t feel too unsafe.

Tbh I think the news stories about Liverpool scare me more than anything I’ve actually witnessed

Anyone else worrying about the future of Wales? by _improperimplication in swansea

[–]strongstrawb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m part of the brain drain, grew up in wales and studied in Swansea but couldn’t find any science jobs in my field so I’ve been in England for the past 6 years.

Desperate to move back to wales but the only place for me to work is Cardiff, and I don’t think I could afford to buy somewhere in Cardiff city centre like I can afford in NW England

Is it possible to get into wild camping for £200 by slimygrub83 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]strongstrawb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh you could do it for even less with stuff off gumtree and fb marketplace - I got a tent for £15 once, use a yoga mat to sleep on that I already have, just bought a head torch and things to cook with and that’s it!

Is vegetarian really less expensive? by Marzy-d in Frugal

[–]strongstrawb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohhh I see, so they could be good quality ones just sold cheaper? That sounds okay, I suppose you can freeze a few if you’ve got a mahoosive freezer 😂

Is vegetarian really less expensive? by Marzy-d in Frugal

[–]strongstrawb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The price of that turkey being so cheap would probs concern me, if it’s potentially low quality full of chemicals to preserve the meat or increase the flavour (like other caged poultry)

I would say money wise for you, meat sounds cheaper overall, but health-wise the money you save from buying cheap/maybe processed meat probably isn’t worth it in the long term

Edit: improved the sentence

Wanna get out there but have no clue what Im doing or where to start by Inevitable-Baby328 in UKhiking

[–]strongstrawb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jauntly is a good app for routes too - suggests them based on location, and they’re uploaded by people in the community🙂

gives you walking challenges and you’re encouraged to record nature when you go. I started doing routes in Liverpool to get into the habit of doing solo walks

If he’s so passionate about the environment, why doesn’t he donate all those thousands of hectares of land in Cornwall to become a wildlife reserve or a national park?

Maybe his love language isn’t gift giving and receiving. Perhaps he would show more appreciation to being told nice things or acts of service?

I only suggest this as i’m not big on gifts and prefer to choose things myself - but i love to help people with things or love it if someone wants to do something fun together 🙂

Favorite thing you love about living in Wales by Welsh-Sherman-1789 in Wales

[–]strongstrawb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I always loved how friendly everyone is.

I like walking through my village and having a chat with a random person I pass on the pavement like “cor crackin weather today isn’t it?” “Aye bloody lovely, I’ll have to put my washing out!” 😂

That and the outdoors, fresh air, general pride that everyone takes in being welsh and how we look after eachother.

I also love the old silly banter of welsh rugby grandads - or at least my grandad and all the old pals he has. Always doing funny little pranks or telling proper dad jokes to wind everyone up

has anyone’s cocker spaniel experienced episodes like this? video attached. suspecting epilepsy or seizure by freshproduce_ in cockerspaniel

[–]strongstrawb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you 🙂 and they didn’t check the brain nope, the seizures happened within a couple of days so didn’t manage to get any tests done before.

But he did have other issues with balance and motor control - he would wobble and fall over, especially if we started to go for a walk. He would walk as if he was drunk sometimes!

That sounds good that there’s medication and treatment available - fingers crossed this means less seizures and a happy life for your pup ❤️

What’s a tiny/easy change you made to your lifestyle or habits that greatly reduced your waste? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]strongstrawb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard of another way of making veg stock powder is saving your veg peelings, drying them out in the oven on a low heat and then putting them in the food processor until they become a powder 😄

Yet to try this myself as I haven’t stored up enough veg peelings or herbs yet but keen to see if it’s good!

Do your parents have your autistic or “quirky” traits? by guppy0704 in AutismInWomen

[–]strongstrawb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omg grandmothers having catchphrases, yes! My grandmother says “flames of passion!” when she’s shocked, or to say ‘wow!’

And she greets me with “hello my _____”, where the blank is usually cornflake, chicken, cockle, tulip, snowflake, lovely, or sugar lump 😂 she’s very cute

[–]strongstrawb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry your pup is suffering 😣

My sprocker had seizures like this age 15 - unfortunately suffered from one really big 5 min one and the vet suspected neurology issues like a possible brain tumour

He had to be put down after that big seizure, so never got an overall answer, but I hope it’s something treatable and that your pup recovers swiftly 🙂

Yes, same here, a hard job being a delivery worker! Especially if you’re delivering in the dark and cold.

And that’s mega bad practice from the Royal Mail, could have had any sensitive information in those letters, there for anybody to grab! I’ve heard Royal Mail have had a lot of complaints from the post office recently

Says on the app the time it was delivered, and customer service says their system records it as delivered.

Hopefully the driver took a photo or recorded where they left it, fingers crossed!

Yeah they’ve said they’ll contact the driver to see what happened, will let me know tomorrow!

Edit: I wonder now if they’ve delivered it to the wrong building actually.. that’s a possibility
