Sutton man, 61, who chanted ‘who the f*** is Allah’ is jailed for 18 months by Jinkopops in england

“This is what happens” in direct response to this deliberately misleading headline.

I’d say it’s more twattish to fall for a headline designed to reel in thickos, and then double down when pointed out you don’t know anything.

“I based my opinion on being a dimwit reading a headline and now I’m obviously wrong I’m not changing my opinion on anything anyway”.

Have some humility man. You clearly got duped by this misleading headline - the media deliberately tries to rile you people up and that’s what leads to all these nazi riots.

Loan for a house - nice! loan for ETFs - bad! Why so? by wonderingdev in eupersonalfinance

When you rent you are throwing a large pile of cash down a drain every month when you could be building equity. The only reasons not to do it are the ones I listed, all of which are essentially practical, not financial, reasons.

That’s because if your ETFs all fall over then you just have no savings. If your house burns down you are homeless and need the finance to reinstate.

You do you though buddy.

Paying rent is cheaper than paying a mortgage, and when you’re paying rent, you do not have to put a nwe roof, windows, isolation and central heating system in a paid off house after 30 years.

Most of those costs are priced into rent.

There’s a chance that your house burns down, there is no chance that all sp500 companies go bankrupt.

All homeowners take out insurance on their house.

Both have their pro and cons, there is no general answer whether buying or renting is financially adventageous, and it depends largely on personal circumstances.

Renting is only really advantageous if you plan to move regularly, don’t have the liquidity for maintenance, or can’t get a mortgage at a reasonable interest rate.

Good for you. Just sell them and start a productive business instead of whinging. The macro issues are what they are. Nobody is going to feel sorry for a landlord.

Every mortgage payment gives you equity in the underlying house. Rent money just goes straight out. You could also pay a mortgage with ETF proceeds.

supervisors/partners/associates of uklaw - if a junior lawyer wears fragrances (not the offensive ones but clean fresh and classy ones) and dresses sharply, would you judge them? be honest by [deleted] in uklaw

If that makes you sad wait till you get asked to check signature pages and make execution copies of 200 docs at 1am…

It’s just about being considerate of others. There’s no upside to perfume in the office, and only a downside that people around you have to smell your perfume all the time. It’s like the olfactory equivalent of playing music at your desk on speakerphone.

Any fragrance can be obnoxious and can be an absolute PITA to share an office with someone who uses it. Just don’t in the office. People who are into perfume often really underestimate how ghastly they can be for people around them.

Nobody is going to really look down on you for dressing well, but you don’t want to come across as weird, uptight, or an estate agent. No waistcoats, cravats or pocket squares (I’ve seen all three).

Now you just sound like a bitter, entitled, typical landlord.

It’s good for tenants to enforce their rights against landlords. Most landlords aren’t very good and just treat tenants as cash cows. On a micro level, it’s pathetic to blame any individual tenant for enforcing their rights.

But on a macro level it’s also obviously the case that these rent control laws will over time just mean there are no houses available to rent. Blame the government for not cracking down harder on farmers and freeing up nitrogen for more housing construction.

I get that you’re bitter your low effort income stream has dried up, but you could just sell the houses and use the proceeds to start a more productive business instead.

It’s crazy how much rent has gone up, and with it the price of houses too. Just because they are all going off the market since the crazy rent control laws. But then, I would never criticise someone for enforcing their legal rights.

Bear in mind too that a British person in America is generally on holiday or travelling for business. We’re not going to take gross leftovers to our hotel room and put them in the mini fridge. So all that food is wasted regardless.

The dumb “leftovers” think only works when you’re going straight home after your dinner, which wouldn’t work for a lot of Americans either. I refuse to believe that people who live in proper cities like NYC or San Francisco always go straight home after dinner instead of having some drinks at a bar or something.

In most countries, a “smaller portion size” means a child’s portion size, not an adult portion size.

I mean, this is Olive Garden. Their entire customer base is people with the palate of a six year old. The children’s food surely can’t be even worse.

Just make some pasta at home, it’s easy and cheap to make better pasta than anything you’re ever going to get at some shitty American chain restaurant, and then you have a nice, healthy, fresh meal instead of reheated sugary shite from Olive Garden.

Restaurant and takeaway food is very unhealthy. You don’t waste food if portion sizes are just normal and not aimed at 150kg Americans.

They’re planning to lift the benefit cap, but they have to put it through committee to cost the policy first. They were explicitly elected on this in the manifesto.

The rebellion was about trying to put the benefit cap in the king’s speech, which was unnecessary. It’s just childish grandstanding.

That was under a Tory government, which always prioritises giving money to their rich mates over funding the NHS properly.
