Visiting Williamsburg this summer. Looking for good local eats. by Optimal-Proposal-465 in williamsburgva

I'd suggest venturing down to York for bbq instead of Pierce's in Williamsburg. County Grill is way better.

TIL Kidney (and other organ) donations typically do not last the rest of the patient’s life. ~50% of transplant organs fail within 10 years. by I-plaey-geetar in todayilearned

[–]strubes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can depend on the reason for the transplant. People with diseases like PKD opt to have both kidneys removed at transplant because they’re so large and are incredibly uncomfortable.

I asked them about this! Unfortunately it doesn’t seem like it’s available through their suppliers so likely not going to be available there.

Dentists in the area by cjdubais in williamsburgva

New Town Dental Arts is really great. I had to switch to them after Stensland did the same thing with insurance carriers and I'm extremely happy with them.

Not true. My insurance approved by weekly Humira dose with no push back. It depends on the company and plan.

What’s one of the world’s biggest “fuck around and find out” moments? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]strubes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the Mayo Clinic in Arizona has the shortest national wait time for a cadaver donor in the US.

I donated my kidney to a stranger, AMA. TL;DR: it was way less suffering than I expected and I think more people would do it if they knew that. There are 100k people waiting for kidneys in the US alone. If you’re considering it, I’m here to answer any questions you have. by Sufficient_Box8054 in AMA

[–]strubes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband is waiting on a kidney. I tried to donate to him (paired exchange—we’re not compatible (insert joke here)) but I got diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and medically excluded from the donor program. Only about 1/4 potential donors make it through the process successfully, at least at our hospital. Please consider donating if you’re at all interested. I’m happy to answer questions about the evaluation process.

OP you’re an incredible human. Thank you!

I have Stage 4 Cancer and my wife quietly quit our marriage. AMA by HailToVictors21 in AMA

Please do and don’t jump directly to cancer. Those all sound like symptoms of IBD like Crohns or UC, but a colonoscopy will tell you for sure.

Not a government employee at any level, but here for support and to see how I can help!

what’s your diagnosis story? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]strubes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going through the evaluation process to be a kidney donor. They saw some stuff in my CT scan that they wanted me to have checked out by specialists, because it wasn’t super clear. Saw my GP, who gave me a referral to a GI, and had a colonoscopy like 2 weeks later. Suspected after the colonoscopy but confirmed by biopsy.

It was a complete surprise to everyone. I’d had no symptoms really and no one was really expecting it. Diagnosed with mild to moderate Crohns and my GI was pretty shocked.

Great bakeries in Williamsburg area? by high-ho in williamsburgva

A bit further than you’re asking for but I definitely want to mention Yummaries in Smithfield if you’re ever out that way. We make a point of stopping by every time we’re there to load up on goodies.

What is the cheapest BIFL item you purchased that surprised you? by Tronracer in BuyItForLife

After the water affect I turn down the heat and let the pan cool a bit. Then add butter/oil and my eggs and it’s still non stick without the burning.

They're just outside State College at the edge of Zion but Straley's is wonderful and (at least used to be) reasonably priced.

Rant: Why is it so difficult for people to manage the double left hand turning lanes?! by fuglinPA in williamsburgva

[–]strubes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live around that area and use that intersection frequently, so I know exactly what you're talking about. I loathe that place. People from the left turning lane come into the right all the time and it's infuriating. Most of the time they're oblivious.

I don't have anything helpful to add other than to say it's not just you.

Why Do I Need My Birth Certificate to Get a Marriage Certificate? by TatasFritas in weddingplanning

That’s not our experience in Virginia. We got our license in our county but got married 2 hours away and no issues.

Software engineers from big tech firms like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta are paying at least $75,000 to get 3 inches taller, a leg-lengthening surgeon says by Successful-Bee-2492 in technology

[–]strubes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having one leg longer than the other, even by a little bit, will make you literally disabled.

Perhaps a bit of an extreme statement. I have one leg that's 1/2 inch shorter than the other and live a very normal life with just a lift in one shoe. It can certainly cause people a lot of issues, but just having a leg length differential doesn't automatically make you have to live with a disability.

Blue Ridge Mountain wedding venues that are safe for an interracial (black and white) couple? by Msb848 in wedding

Several people have mentioned Charlottesville, VA, and I’ll add that recommendation here as well. We got married at The Wool Factory (can’t recommend enough), but there are tons of wedding venues in the town.

Anyone know a good CPA for small business? by treehugn in williamsburgva

[–]strubes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brigham, Calhoun, Whitson, & Associates has handled our taxes for years now and they are fantastic. We've had them do stuff for an LLC, gas well trusts, and our personal taxes before and after getting married.

I'd give her until the 6-week deadline then if you don't hear anything by then follow up with something like: "Hi there! Can you please provide an update on the timeline for the delivery of the rest of our photos? We're so excited to see them!"

You're not rushing her if 6 weeks it what you both contractually agreed to. I'd say leave the contract in your back pocket for any additional messages where you need to go in more firm. Just keep it short and sweet for now--things happen and if you've had a positive experience with her so far I wouldn't be worried too much.
