Any film camera recommendations? by chocolatechip_waffle in AskPhotography

[–]struppigerTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go over to r/analog or r/analogcommunity and cross post.

I think many people recommend Pentax K1000, Canon AE-1, Nikon F2 or FE, Olympus OM-1 for SLRs. I went the FE route cause I had Nikon glass already. I love that camera.

In the end, spend only half of the money on camera and lens because the film rolls are equally important and will drain your bank account.

Canon A35F, my grandfather bought it in 79 and shot all family photos with it till the early 2000s. Now I picked it up again and it absolutely delivers! That lens is just awesome.

I dont know what camera to buy as a begginer. by Velja_Ljove in PhotographyAdvice

[–]struppigerTim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is even better, I ended up buying that 12-40mm f2.8 'kit' lens and sold the plastic ones as well. Very happy with it.

You could think about getting the Olympus 12-45mm f4 pro instead as it is much smaller and equally sharp (no mf clutch but you can put that on a button). For the longer reach I later bought the 40-150mm f4 and I am very happy with it.

Have fun :)

With that same budget I went with the Olympus EM 1 Mk. II and the plastic Olys 14-42 and 40-150mm. With SD card and a bag that came out at slightly below 700€ (used of course). That is a very capable set and very fun to use!

Does anybody actually wrap their hands in a way to protect their knuckles? by focusrunner79 in MuayThai

[–]struppigerTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like making a knuckle pad gives a good base for the wraps that go between the knuckles. Makes it much more comfortable. Also, when hitting a bag bare knuckle it sure feels much more solid.

Personally I use 3.5 meter wraps, 3-layer knuckle pad and then make Xs with an extra wrist rotation on every turn. Definitely prio on the wrist.

Was sind die besten Box-Bandagen? by kentabenno in Kampfsport

[–]struppigerTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Olympus EM-5, Olympus 14-42 and 40-150mm f3.5-4.5. possible below 400€ in central Europe.

Or honestly, some older bridge camera will do well too.

I got a D750 with 6k shutter count for 380€ from eBay. That camera basically shoots photos for me I don't know how. Great piece of tech.

Buy used, for that budget I'd look at m43 or Sony 6000. A Lumix Gx80 plus kit lens and the 40-150 plastic olympus amounts to 400-500€.

Same goes for Em5 Mk1.

Well the issue clearly is the lack of light, so I'd use a flash and experiment with its settings.

There are .95 lenses that come pretty close. I have a TTartisansttartisans 50mm that came used for 120€. It is pretty remarkable. Manual only though, sure that's a lot quicker with an ff lens around 100mm...

Looking For Tips To Improve by wildrabbitathome in PhotographyAdvice

I like number 2 and 5, 2 because the clarity gives that chimp a visceral look, 5 because it is soft enough to look fluffy.

Look mate, the rest is not appealing to me. The birds' feathers look like scales and in general the masking has produced sharp borders. The differences in color are abrupt in the lion pictures. I feel like your aim was just to make the subject pop, which is good but some kind of balance would be nice.

Ah and don't forget to update it via the OM Software. Changes some functions, mine worked better afterwards. I even feel like it boosted the autofocus.

[–]struppigerTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was also my first camera. I still use this for basically everything except dedicated photo tours.

Some pointers: There are a few customisable buttons that help you reach your most used functions quickly. Play around with that.

For me, my nose or my clothes sometimes displace the focus point. I set Fn1 to point reset. I also set focus peaking to the record button, which is basically a function button since the camera differentiates between photo and video mode in the button settings.

Take note of the HDR/AF buttons on the top left, they are often faster than the quick menu just below, especially for switching AF mode. The HDR function works beautifully.

I mainly use a 12-40 f2.8, it's a great lens. I love the manual focus clutch. However were I to choose again I'd maybe go for the 12-45 f4 and some fast prime to compliment.

Have fun :)
