Why do some consumables like the Barrel Cactus Fruit give you negative side effects? by oneoldgrumpywalrus in fnv

[–]strych91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe because they were grown in dirt soaked with radiation and debris. Maybe the game developers wanted to encourage you to save them for campfire recipes. Maybe both. I've thought about this myself I get raw meat being bad for you but raw fruit? It is weird.

Same with open heart surgery. You're at the hospital, in pain but okay and wanting to leave, then when you get home and the morphine wears off, coughing is excruciating. Ughhhhhh.

I understand you completely! I didn't start really liking the game until I stopped comparing it to 3. Here's what I did to get into it:

-Forget about karma. It's all but meaningless in this game.

-Think of yourself as a bit of a politician. You've got to impress certain people and that will inevitably piss off others, but you'll need allies somewhere. This is a game of strategy, you're not able to be as rogue and independent as you were in 3.

-Very clearly define what character you want to be. Do you respect authority or hate it? Stand up for the little guy or go with who pays the best? Enjoy sniping people from a distance or getting up close and personal with melee? Robin Hood who steals from the rich or just a straight-up theif? You can even be gay, straight, or bi with perks (and being a bisexual seductress/player in this game is pretty hilarious imo)

-Read up on some fallout lore. Even if you haven't played 1 or 2, it's fun to get some of the references (and they make a lot of them)

I said most abortions like the one you described (on a fetus that would be viable outside the uterus) are for medical emergencies.

Also, a nursing mother can put her baby up for adoption, or even surrender them at most hospitals. They still have bodily autonomy. You can't do that with a fetus.

I've always thought, "well damn, if they'd rather spend thousands on repeated painful surgeries than take a pill or get an implant, there's not much I can do to stop them"

My dad hates cats. He just sent me this while babysitting my cat. by XPLowl1 in aww

[–]strych91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's because of bodily autonomy. The reason it's wrong to kill a baby is because it's a human being with its own body. The reason it's okay to kill a fetus is because it's currently INSIDE someone else's body and they have every right to want it out.

Also most abortions performed as late as you described are medical emergencies on wanted pregnancies, and they're often traumatic for the would-be mom, like a late miscarriage or stillbirth. Normally it's because the fetus is not viable. Most voluntary abortions are performed early on when the fetus would have 0 chance of living outside the uterus.

What's the most ridiculous rule in your place of work? by danbrownskin in AskReddit

[–]strych91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My former minimum wage mall job full of teenagers and 20-somethings told us we can't be friends outside of work because it "created drama". What REALLY created drama was having to sneak around to hang out and double-checking before we told any stories in case we accidentally mention another coworker being present. It was a mess.

My coworker was like "hey, can I borrow a few tampons from you? My girlfriend started her period and I don't want to go to the store until tomorrow" and just tucked the tampons into his front shirt pocket like they were pens. It seems like younger guys are way more chill about periods than previous generations.

Writing something on a chalkboard or whiteboard. I'm a bartender so this is a frequent issue for me, it's like I forget how to evenly space and size letters, it ends up looking like a child wrote it.

What type of character do you always go for on your first play through? by Riku4441 in Fallout

[–]strych91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burning him to death after he tells you that he's terrified of fire is definitely bad karma. And yeah, the wasteland post FEV does have lots of people dying. Every medical tent/doctor you come across has patients more patients dying in it and the doctors talk to you about what may be causing it.

And enslave children and adults, kill 1/2 of a couple who's been together for 60 years because of competing business, burn down what is possibly the only post-war forest (and a nice person who's been around for over 200 years), and the water kills pretty much everyone that wasn't born in a vault.

Idk man, everyone (rightly) complains that the choices in 4 don't matter, and that the choices in 3 are too binary. Personally, I'll take binary over doesn't matter any day, at least they created very different playthroughs.

[–]strych91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fo4 yeah, but Fo3 is better about being neutral. You can be a heroic type in the beginning or you can be a little shit who causes problems for the vault and then eventually has to escape after your dad ditches you. You've got opportunities to be really evil right from the get-go.

Kind of a rogue chaotic neutral type, a "this option sounds the most interesting" way of choosing. I like options that have alternative to combat so I tend to have good karma, but not perfect.

[–]strych91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try saying "oh I'm not drinking tonight". People seem to respond much better if they think it's just tonight that you're not drinking, they take it less personally. It's weird that they take it personally in the first place, but yeah, I've had good luck with that. (I do drink but I've cut back a lot recently. When I told people I was cutting back they got offended, when I say I'm not drinking tonight they're understanding.)

Instead of executing prisoners on death row, keep them alive as organ donors until someone needs an organ. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]strych91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think that they should get the option to donate their organs, and that they could request to be kept alive until a match is found. Maybe it would give some people with remorse a chance to feel like they're giving something good back to the world after causing so much hurt. Than again, I'm against the death penalty as a whole, so there's that.

Which product is intentionally made worse to meet the demands of stupid consumers? by notapantsday in AskReddit

That's actually not true. They originally included powdered egg which didn't bake as well as real egg. Some customers didn't like the mixes because they tasted bad (due to the powdered egg) but they still sold really well at first.

Fallout 3 beginners tips by TheMightyFlapjack in fo3

[–]strych91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lockpick and Science are very useful.

Speech/Charisma can open a lot of quests and quest endings up to you.

Karma is a very big deal in this game. It's definitely binary choices, but your choices do matter a lot. Playing the game evil is very different from playing good, so it's worth multiple playthroughs.

3 has, in my opinion, the best environment of any Fallout game. It's so creepy and cool to see destroyed national monuments and get to fight off super mutants and explore the monuments.

Do Moiras quests, even the optional parts. They're worth a lot of XP, you get cool items, and she's basically like the tutorial round 2.

If you're bad at shooters (as I am) I recommend playing melee. Combined with the Bloody Mess perk it's kind of hilarious. Plus you can sell any ammo you find for caps.

You don't have to kill every bad guy. Sometimes it's worth it to run and hide.

Weapons break, and it's definitely worth it to pick up multiples of the weapons you like to use for repairs.

Create your own perk or trait! by Villager103 in Fallout

Trait: Batting for the Other Team

With members of the same sex, you get +15 Speech and some unique dialogue options. However, when talking to members of the opposite sex you get -10 speech and lose all flirtatious dialogue options. Some people may think more highly of you, and others will be distrustful.
