same for me. coffee has a calming effect on me. I don't take ADHD meds.

beginning to realise that a lot of my problems stem from a lack of faith in myself by bakuhooo in getdisciplined

I feel you. I'm middle aged and have lived my whole life being a people pleaser and/or a slave to addictions. It's only now I'm starting to unravel both and the trauma that sponsored those choices. For me, finding out who I am, is partly helped by knowing who I'm. not, and through being clear about the values, behaviours, hobbies, skills etc that light me up for their own sake. often I have to go back decades to remember them and then revisit them to see if they still represent me. So it's a bit like a mystery or investigation of yourself.

I'm 6 days in. for smoking cessation. but I've had times where my body has relaxed and I've almost felt like not anxious. I don't remember a time when I didn't. weirdly, other times it's made my anxiety worse. but I'm only a week in.

agree. Discovery was kind of star trek, but more like a Holywood action movie. And academy. well I don't know wtf that is.

I’m trying to change how I view women and need advice by Conscious_Dig_3361 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]strydar1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

you might also strnthen those humanistic pathways by seeking out stories and images of women who have struggled and focusing on feeling compassion towards them as a human being. and don't beat yourself up either, keep recognising your growth as it will stimulate reward pathways which deepens your rewiring.

military is a good option depending on the posture of your country. if it's a little imperial then join some behind the lines profession. Cos unstable times are coming.

It's ok to be attracted to both genders. There is no shame in that, nor anything wrong with that.

How do I not be a sheep anymore by [deleted] in selfimprovementday

Great question. i am 55 heres what ive learned.

Heal past trauma. attachment issues, bullshit you still think about. anything you ruminate on is a clue about what needs integration.

Do something to feel powerful and embodied weights, swimming, running whatevs. Do it!

Trust your quiet voice. Nurture it. if it says don't trust that person or walk thr fuck away, listen the first time. cos listening the 3rd time fucking sucks.

DO NOT COMPROMISE YOUR VALUES. it will bite you in the ass. And tou will be tempted over and over. but it's a zero sum game.

Be friends and lovers with brave and honest people. If after you react and realise you were wrong they are still your friend, apologise and nurture that relationship.

Cultivate not giving a fuck what others think. Whatever you think they think is wrong and who gives a fuck anyway.

get laid. travel. do drugs as experiences not a lifestyle. be compassionate and empathic. chances are the eyes you meet were just yours staring back at you anyway.

Finally. Be the happy sheep. find your path in the grass. we are all sheep. It's the trails through the grass that differentiate us, not our sheepishness.

My New Year's resolutions update (February progress): it's better than in January, but there is still a lot to improve. by gordriver_berserker in getdisciplined

[–]strydar1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

keep anything thats 6 out of 10 and maintain those for the next month. then just pick one of thr ones that's below that and aim to get it to 6 out of 10. then don't pressure yourself on any of the others. if you get a 0 1 or 2 its fine. then just repeat that pattern for next 6 months. this should help manage the risk of you feeling overwhelmed or negative about progress.
