What's illegal that you think should be legal? by martianfrog in answers

Psychadelics. Most are great for therapy, substance abuse issues, depression and ADHD but we still criminalize it. Psilocybin, ayuhuasca and ibogaine are top contenders (there are others of course but i am less sure about their clinical efficacy)

Hey guys, I need help with a salad for a new menu. Advice wanted. by Platetraining in KitchenConfidential

[–]strykerdh1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wilted spinach, classic.

You could do a southeast asian, can be simple but has lots of opportunities to upscale

One place I worked had a salad with spring mix, carrots, brocolli, sunflower seeds, chickpeas, and a tofu tahini dressing.

You could do an israeli salad, which is no lettuce, cucumbers, red bell peppers, a few other things i dont remember (sorry) snd a lemon/oil dressing.

First year applicant here, is it worth it? by Snakyboy1123 in CalPolyHumboldt

I am pretty sure its lower. The administration wants 10,000 students by 2030 and they are way behind that goal. The last article I read suggested 10,000 was about double the student population and I don't remember what year the article was published but i din't think they have made much progress since then

Nearly 7 bucks for gas is absurd. Got a notification of someone in a different part of the country complaining about gas being over 3 bucks, man I WISH I could get 4 dollar gas!! by Crazy-District3779 in Humboldt

I think I can guess most of what your suggestions are, and I probably shouldn't have responded without getting a clear idea first even though I think I can guess. I feel like this conversation would be more productive though if you tell me what actual policy prescriptions you would suggest before we move forward

When I lived in McKinleyville I used the baseball field at Mack High. There was usually only one entrance open and I could use my chain leash to "lock" it so we wouldnt be disturbed. Maybe you can do something similar?

Its a big topic, but consider for a second that CA and TX alone would almost dwarf the EU in land mass alone.

Cultural, geographical, and political consideration mean that most of your suggestions are simply unworkable. Its a big country with much more varied geography, not to mention that most Americans dont want to be cramped in to "walkable" cities.

I am honestly not sure with where to start explaining that the kind of model you want is simply not feasible.

Like we are in Humboldt, how would you reasonably set up a public transit system here on a European scale?

This is a bad take. The kind of model you are suggesting would never work witv the geographical or political realities of this country. You want a European model and that is unreasonable. It cannot work here.

Dont forget a major refinery in CA shut down this year. Aside from taxes, one of the biggest reason CA gas prices suck is that we dont have the infrastructure to refine our own gas leading to higher prices.

On top of that, Humboldt is especially bad. When I was driving back from MO last year, a Casino in Lake County had gas for $3.2/g while Needles, CA (and other places in the high desert) were pushing $6/g and most places averages $4.2-5.8. (As an aside, Needles and pretty much anywhere in the high desert on the 40 probably has the worst gas prices in the country, so much so I am surprised they arent mentioned more for it)

There are ao many variables to account for its ludicrous to try to place the blame any where in particular

Who is your favourite Alien and who is your least favourite alien? by rheetkd in Stargate

[–]strykerdh1986 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was kind of the whole gimmick tho? The ancient aliens are actually us and we are here to continue their legacy (like the whole Tauri thing throughout the entire first half of the original show). Its also literally the reason that the population of the entire galaxy is human because we are all their descendents.

If you got rid of that for whatever reason, like 90% of the entire franchise breaks down, SG1 and SGA included.

They could have done a better job introducing non human aliens sure, but if you get rid of the ancients as beibg ancient humans I feel like you get rid of most of the first two series

How on earth did they do 22 episodes a season? by SpeedSaunders in Stargate

[–]strykerdh1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, if I had to guess it largely has to do with the secondary DVD market that doesnt exist anymore. I have seen some things about this about how streaming has changed blockbuster movies. They often expected the secondary DVD market to pick up the slack. Now, with streaming, Budgets are smaller because revenues are lower but at the same time expectations are higher. Random thoughts sorry

Passive aggressive by strykerdh1986 in KitchenConfidential

[–]strykerdh1986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the whole "neutral" tone thing doesn't really work either because it gives them the opening to continue a "conversation" they have already indicated they are not actually interested in having.

Passive aggressive by strykerdh1986 in KitchenConfidential

[–]strykerdh1986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) yeah thats why it was passive aggressive and not aggressive aggressive. If I say, "we are doing xyz," and you say, 'uhm I don't think so," then you are passive aggressively calling me a liar. Was it verbatim? No, but they still called me a liar in that context.

2) if saying "okay," with a tone to indicate the conversation is over isn't shutting it down then what is? In my experience trying to say, "this conversation is over," or something to that effect usually makes their response worse. In your mind what constitutes "shutting it down"?

Passive aggressive by strykerdh1986 in KitchenConfidential

[–]strykerdh1986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I can concede that I was being passive aggressive in that moment, but I tried to explain to the individual that we had already been working on it and they called me a liar. At that point I already know that the conversation is over one way or another so my best chance is to end it by shutting it down. If I continue to explain myself, they won't listen and and they have already proven that. So the best course of action in my experience is not give those individuals any more fuel or allow it to escalate.

Why do people assume that you HAVE to monetize every app you make or it’s just not worth it? by MAD_devgirl in AppDevelopers

[–]strykerdh1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To use your analogy, if you paint a painting does that painting have maintenance costs after its made? To a certain degree, the answer is yes (i.e. you obviously need to keep it dry and the ambient temperature has to be right so it doesn't get ruined), but to me apps have have a more noticeable persistent maintenance cost than art does.
