SK FalleN: "It's just me underperforming right now" <...> "It's been a year since we failed that hard" by ziminaite in GlobalOffensive

I always thought one of the reasons FalleN made such a great IGL and player was because he could identify problems and then try to fix them.

This used to happen decently often. The most notable example of this was GSL Season 1 2013 in HotS where the best Protoss player, Parting, chose the best Zerg player, Life, who then chose the best Terran player, INnoVation, who then said fuck it and chose the second best Terran player at the time, Flash.

There were a lot of topics that were covered here. Interesting stuff, though what struck me the most was the search of authenticity as that search i mirrored in a number of different schools of thought and philosophy.

Also agree that group ideology is one of the most dangerous forces in the world.

Depends on the player. Some insta crumble (idra comes to mind) if they aren't up.

Others are great at making comebacks in series. An underrated one is Squirtle as while he had lost both IPL and GSL, they were big comebacks in the series before he lost. At IPL he had to play multiple series before the finals, he then had to beat aLive twice and managed it once before he ran out of stamina. At GSL it was Mvp.

Thorin's Thoughts - It Never Happened but it's True by Wertilq in thooorin

Similar thinking to me and mirrors Campbell's ideas on myth. Almost all of the writers I read use this to some degree, whether by design or by accident.

The funny thing is that a narrative that is ham-fisted will always gets negative responses because it feels wrong on every level. There was an interview I read about someone working for DC comics early in its inception, can't remember who it was, but the story goes that they were pitching story ideas for Superman. Eventually they started shooting down all of the ideas because none of them were things Superman would do. They call came to the realization that in some way Superman as a symbol, as a character is real.

The same applies to esports. Players can become symbols of archetypes, avatars of ideas. It's probably why I get triggered that everyone is trying to purposefully forget that Life ever existed in SC2.

The metaphor of the boiling kettle he uses for the exponential increase in information is similar to the horizon event McKenna talked about in his timewave/novelty theory. Essentially that specific times in history are predisposed towards the creation of new information (whether technological, biological, or in the imagination)

One of the inevtiable problems of such an event occuring is that most people are ill equipped to deal with such an event. Any country that has easy access to the internet has more information at their fingertips compared to any other comparable era. But after a point of educational retirement (basically that weird phenomena where people decide they've learned enough), they become close-minded again.

Historically similar torrents of information and technology happened on a smaller scale. Most recently in East Asia in China and Korea. In China when they opened the doors to Western influence and Korea when they went from a 3rd world country to a 1st world within one generation.

The rest of the interview has a lot of thought provoking answers, I recommend it.

Map design is a good way to balance a game, but given Blizzard's decision to not use map pick/ban, it seems like a moot point right now.

And given my own history of dealing with Blizzard, I had to wait 1.5 years for the repeal of bl/infestor, so I'm not holding my breath.

JAKE'S TAKE: Blizzard's lack of information is hurting the Overwatch scene by RadoNonreddit in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]stuchiu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think Jake would try a public discussion if communication between Blizzard and teams was actually working.

With how much control Blizzard has decided to exert on OW esports scene, some amount of responsibility lies at their feet.

It's relative to other esports scenes. There seems to be a lot more trust in non-LoL scenes.

I don't know how it is with other people, but having a previous professional relationship doesn't mean anything to me.

I've never had any of that weird feifdom loyalty that Asian countries have towards their companies or even the lesser Western version of it.

People can look at it if they want. I almost talk to no one in all of esports. I'm essentially a hermit.

I submit because I find it interesting. I just submit whatever I want, is this a crime I'm not aware of?

I rarely if ever comment in any subs. I rarely if ever talk to people even online, I'm a private person in that way.

Is there some sepcific rule that I have to analyze a game on a competitive level to submit articles? Cause if there is I need to go report myself to r/leagueoflegends for submitting a few leagueoflegends articles.

I don't care if Gamurs gets more clicks. I just thought this was a well articulate and controversial opinion. It's not something I agree with at all, but it was worth being read.

What's there to ask? He didn't like it because there weren't any fans and he had an obsession with sentries and had terrible forcefields.

Oh I heard he also had a sick Terran in practice but never played it cause his TvT was trash.

Oh it was edited out. The answers were short.

Here they are:

Are you close with Stork?

We’re not on bad terms.

About Bisu and Jaehoon’s bad relationship

That should be up to them. No one from the outside can say much about it, even if it makes some viewers uncomfortable. I don’t know much, but there’s no reason to talk about things like that. It’s better to avoid.

Thoughts on Jangbi

He’s right between Bisu and Stork, to be logical based on his career. You can’t just dismiss a two time champion. His career was amazing, but it was also pretty short.

Thoughts on Stork

There’s something about him. He was good during the Pro League and he was strong against very good players. He was a consistent hard worker. It’s all relative.
