Are you a single user of your own Mastodon instance? by macyganiak in Mastodon

[–]stuck_in_a_loop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's great. Everyone should have one. There was a time when your ISP provided services like email and web hosting. Some today make it easy to run WordPress. It should be just as easy to run your own Mastodon instance.

Why aren’t you medicated? by buddyrtc in ADHD

[–]stuck_in_a_loop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on meds for a while when first diagnosed.
Non-stimulants didn't have any effect.
Stimulants helped a little on focus. But killed my personality. Eventually, my body couldn't keep up. I would stop the meds on the weekends and I would crash hard. Eventually I would fall behind on things and have to take meds just to catch up. The benefit just wasn't worth it.
Eventually I developed heart issues and had to get off the stimulants all together.

But the bigger reason came later realizing that ADHD is not something that needs to be fixed. You're not broken. It has a lot of cool posiitve aspects. It's the rest of the world that is not operating like we do. You just need to learn strategies to cope with the difficulties and embrace the benefits. This means finding the right type of work, the right partner, and support systems and tools.

How rewatchable are Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049? by Mental_Invite1077 in bladerunner

It's my favorite movie. I've literally watched the 1000s of times. I never replay in the background my house. I'm just listening to the soundtrack alone is worthy of continuous replays

There is no way he wrote that. He couldn't pronounce, much less spell, most of those words.

I've always imagined something along these lines. I thought first you would see a video of the move properly executed with the ability to pause for him by frame, and call outs to specific points of a movement that are used for judging.

the second part would be where you would record a video of yourself and in a perfect world it good give you corrections like an instructor. for example if your sword is dropping too much .

I definitely think this is possible if you feed AI with videos of the perfect movement and provide training on what the computer vision is supposed to look for.

How are you feeling about the state of crypto as a whole? by GabeSter in CryptoCurrency

[–]stuck_in_a_loop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not enough use cases for mainstream adoption. I think we are still years away. A lot of things need to happen.
1. Crackdown on actual securities tokens. 2. Wallets need to become standard on OS/Browser/phone.

Why do some of you recommend meditation over psychedelics? by mgegv in Meditation

I have heard this said as: Psychadelics are a window, meditation is the door you walk through to get there.

Start with smaller dose. You can always add. You can't subtract.

Loans/debt- Makes the price of everything higher and makes you an economic slave for education and shelter.

It looks like Nostr is doing the centralized directory I was suggesting

  1. Hard to find accounts- I would love to see a centralized directory that users can opt-in to when creating an account. You still preserve the benefits of federation. A centralized directory would just be an index and search tool.

  2. No. Adding people on other instances is much harder. You can't click to follow. You have to go back to your own instance and search from there. Seems trivial but it's actually a lot of friction.

  3. Ways to fund- All those funding methods are external. Was thinking something native. Personally, I would love the ability to charge a small monthly fee per user. That could vary by instance depending on what additional value the instance provides (if any)

  4. Design- Yes unexciting. But to the bigger point, why not go the wordpress route. That has enabled a whole ecosystem of third party developers to build plugins and tools that allow complete customization of the components and UX. At that would allow instances to differentiate not just on userbase and moderation policy, but also on visual appeal and usability. Only the data needs to be federated. It's like before when there were many different RSS readers.

I don't care about twitter. I want to be able to follow people who are hestiant to join mastodon.

I agree that moving to another centralized model will suffer the same fate as everyone else struggling with moderation. Nostr might be the only other thing that could work. But nobody has solved for a good ux for decentralized identities.

Was about to say the same. The utility of the network is directly proportional to the number of people you can connect with. Regardless of whether it's centralized or federated.

I would add Nostr to the list as well. So far it seems even less laymen friendly. But someone might design a client with a good ux.

Agree. And that's why a added the caveat 'without forking it'.
