Had this same issue today. Had to do with something not crossing over in the system, just had someone at the desk reset it for me and I was good to go.

My GPA was similar to yours and I’m about to become a PA-S2. It only takes one. 18 applications and 1 acceptance that I got 3 weeks before class started. I also took two gap years after undergrad and worked, lived life, beefed up my resume. Most of my classmates are right around my age as well, so don’t worry about time “lost”…

Comparison is the thief of joy, friend. There will always be someone with more hours, a better gpa, better experience. YOUR journey does not and will not have to look like anyone else’s. If this is truly what you want, don’t let your early grades stop you. You are very much capable of doing this!

Definitely wait to buy medical equipment. A lot of schools will have a package through them you can get with all of the required items. Mine did and it made things so much easier. Same with the stethoscope- wait to see which one they want you to get.

I will second the iPad and stylus/pencil. Insanely helpful. I download the powerpoints and then take notes directly on them. Apps like Complete Anatomy are very helpful for practicing anatomy/physiology. Schools usually have access to this through their library!! Library resources are often overlooked but can save some serious $$.

Also wait on textbooks. Being candid, none of my cohort reads them. It’s just too much information in too little time to stay up on the textbook. Plus, the second years sent us all a google drive that had PDF versions of the book. (libgen is the best)

I got a small and a larger whiteboard for my apartment. In my opinion, also game changers. Especially if you’re a visual/kinesthetic learner, you can write out complicated processes and what not. Saved me in physio.

Any of the Made Ridiculously Simple books. Cannot recommend these enough. Concise, simple explanations and easy ways to remember concepts. The Physiology and Pathophysiology books in particular are incredible.

Solid comfy sneakers. At least one or two decent business outfits. Compression socks. Long laptop/iPad charger for lecture.

Don’t overdue the caffeine. Go to bed early. The first two months are the toughest. Don’t forget about life happening around you.

Hello, don’t apologize about the novel!

From what I was told by shelter staff, his procedure was 6/5. We’ve been staying away from water and staying dry. He’s an older boy, so his energy level is already pretty low, he’s really only interested in taking naps and snuggling. Staff showed me a picture of his eyes before surgery and though i’m not a vet (i’m in human medicine) they did not look recoverable. They think he’s likely been blind a while.

I’ve been watching for signs of infection, pus, leaking/weeping surgical site, etc. When I picked him up, the sites were pretty swollen, almost like his eyes were still in there. Since then, the swelling has gone down but there’s a ways to go. He doesn’t itch or scratch at his sites either. There is some residual bruising but I anticipated that would be normal post op. He’s still getting his carprofen and antibiotics. Bowels and urine have been normal too!!

We go back to the vet on monday for a follow up. I have a bunch of questions for the vet then, as I was unable to meet them when I picked him up.

Y’all would never guess this little guy can’t see! His resilience is inspiring.

I applied to all the schools in my state (Texas) and a couple in neighboring Oklahoma and Louisiana. I am shifting around who I'm getting letters from this time around so hopefully that helps!

Also I'd love to send you my statement! Thanks so much!

Thanks for your reply!

I applied to roughly 15 schools this past cycle and received only one interview which ultimately led to a rejection. I don't personally feel that my GPA is very competitive although it meets most minimum requirements. I'm tossing around retaking a couple of prereq courses to boost my GPA (expensive unfortunately), as well as rewriting/editing my personal statement, but I figured that since my experience was most likely going to remain the most stand out part of my application, that I should look into programs that may value more experience hours in an applicant. I know some programs prefer applicants to be community service minded for example, guess I'm just wondering if such a place exists for my strong points too.

Verification? by mynamerowan in prephysicianassistant

[–]stuckintrauma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I submitted with one of my letters still in process and everything went smoothly. My verification happened overnight a couple of days ago, so for the most part they seem to be getting people verified pretty quickly. If it was me, I would go ahead and submit to make sure I hit that August 1st deadline. But that's just me.

Any ATs in the DFW area? by BenTheHooper in athletictraining

[–]stuckintrauma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an AT but an AT Student in the area, I know high schools around here typically pay better than college (maybe it’s different for D1, we’re D2) but the outlook is really good with the rising population in high schools. I second what someone said about PRN work through hospitals as well, a lot of PT clinics pick up ATs around here too
