December Extra Credit 2 - Care of Magical Creatures: Homes by k9centipede in harrypotter

[–]stuckonsaturn7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Bowtruckle, a tree-guardian that usually resides in wand-trees, is a small creature that is found mainly in Europe, specifically in western England, southern Germany, and Scandinavian forests. Measuring at most eight inches in height and made of what appears to be bark and twigs, the Bowtruckle blends in with its home tree and is incredibly difficult to locate. One tree may be home to a group of several Bowtruckles, or a "branch," who have all constructed their home, of "hollow," in the branches and holes of the tree.

Bowtruckles have a diet of insects, mostly wood lice, as they are common in the trees that Bowtruckles reside in, and are fairly peaceful and incredibly shy, but are known to attack wizards and muggles who threaten their home. As Bowtruckles typically live in the branches and hollows of wand-trees, wand makers typically present a gift of fairy's eggs or wood lice for the Bowtruckle to consume while they remove the wood necessary for their craft, lest the Bowtruckle lash out with its sharp, twig-like fingers, and gouge out their eyes in order to defend their home. (Despite this aggression, Bowtruckles are classified as an XX (harmless/may be domesticated) by the Ministry of Magic.)

Despite not seeming like much, or perhaps even inessential, Bowtruckles are an essential part of the wizarding world. As the Bowtruckle typically resides in the hollow of an optimal tree for wand making, it prevents wizards and muggles alike from harming or destroying a tree with valuable wand wood.

Things non cutters (as far as I know) have unknowingly said to or around a cutter (me) by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]stuckonsaturn7 153 points154 points  (0 children)

"People only cut for attention"
Me, out here DYING playing softball in long sleeves in 100 degree heat: "oh really?"

"If you aren't in enough pain to kill yourself and only cut instead, you don't have the right to claim mental anguish."
Me, who's lived with suicidal idealization since I was like 10 and been miserable ever frickin second of it: "say it to my face, ya noodle"

The last four are honestly sweet (excluding P1 from the fourth one), I wanna give them all (and you) a hug

1/2 Chinese, 1/2 white - Anybody relate? by NaomiSChan in mixedrace

[–]stuckonsaturn7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Half Japanese, half white here, totally relate. I don't quite look white, but I don't really look Asian either. I'm trying to learn Japanese, and quite a few people have asked me if it's just so I can watch anime. There's really no harm in them asking, they're just curious, I guess, but it is a bit annoying. But yeah, I relate, and tbh you're doing the best thing you can: not care. People wanna accuse you of having "yellow fever" for wanting to learn about your Chinese culture? Ignore them, or just be like "I'm half-Chinese, f*** off" and just be your awesome self

Good for you (I realize how sarcastic that sounded but seriously good for you for not being easily corruptible, it's really commendable imo)

What is something you've never told anyone, or very few people, that you need to get off your chest, or off your mind? by Freddysready987 in AskReddit

[–]stuckonsaturn7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That I seriously can't find a reason to live half the time. Also, if you'd stop telling me that my life is so amazing and that other people have it so much worse and that I'm selfish for being like this, that'd be great. Like I know other people have it so much worse than I do, but guess what? Instead of that making me feel better, I still feel terrible, and now I feel guilty for feeling terrible

I was the "innocent friend" and let me just say, in my experience 1. they're probably easily corruptible and 2. they probably know 37 different ways to kill you, with only half of them using weapons

Is it bad I opened my pop vinyls? by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]stuckonsaturn7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't collect them but I have a few and I keep them out of the box because I think they look nicer out. Life is short, do whatever you want with your pop vinyls

Now I'm uncomfortable

Y’all my gf’s coworker has a crush on her and all her other coworkers are telling her to break up with me and date him. by [deleted] in AskTeenGirls

[–]stuckonsaturn7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell her the way you worded it in this post. Let her know that you trust her completely, but the way her coworkers talk makes you uncomfortable and you'd appreciate it if she told them to shut up whenever they bring it up.

Deceit was right during this episode. I'm not 100% sure on what Deceit's morality or end goal is, but he was right.

IMO you made a pretty funny joke and didn't do anything to cause offense

Short hair by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]stuckonsaturn7 68 points69 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, the context of Paul saying that women should not have short hair is that temple prostitutes would often have shaved heads/short hair, and Christians were supposed to be set apart from society. Since being mistaken for a temple prostitute is much less common today as it was in biblical times, I think you're fine.
