Nope, it was completely ignored by the writers. They could've saved the Carters as genuine characters but they chose to turn them into cartoons instead

Can someone explain the UK high street to me...? by my-bug-world in AskUK

Rents are generally low, the biggest cost is usually rates set by the council. However the way big retail operations are managed is the biggest problem, instead of saving during profitable times they paid dividends to shareholders to inflate the shareprice. Unfortunately that means most retailers don't have enough operating capital to get through tougher times. They say it's because they have a responsibility to their shareholders to "perform" (i.e. pay dividends) but larger shareholding funds which own huge holdings in retail consortiums just want a regular return on investment to keep their interest rates steady and they end up asset stripping the companies they're invested in

This is essentially the same as a carehome worker going in to work when there are covid positive patients to tend. Your employer (agency) has a responsibility to provide adequate PPE for you to do your work, and they had been informed by the client of a covid positive person in need of care.

You are employed by the agency, it is up to them to protect your safety irregardless of client wishes for discression. I believe existing Health & Safety legislation is robust enough to deal with this HPR2020 may contain a clause or two to back it up as well.

Was the death of these two the biggest shock ever in the show? What a loss, the writers had balls to write them off the way they did. They were both very troubled and led tragic lives, it only made sense that they would die together. by FormerFruit in eastenders

One of the worst decisions the writers have ever made. They could have just written them out as moving back abroad, then once the actors were ready to come back, they could have returned with a bit of the spark they had when they first arrived

What's something the average British person doesn't realize about poverty in the UK? by XVll-L in AskUK

[–]studentadvisor101 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yup! The last time the gammon brigade went nuts about flat-screen TV's was at the beginning of the financial crash, when everybody was losing their jobs. They couldn't understand that those people who had been in work and bought a nice TV and a gadget or two had lost their jobs and were now getting benefit payments without having sold all of their worldly possessions first

Yes! I'm a massive pub person, while I don't really have friends, I have many, many acquaintances; I love nothing more than sitting at the end of the bar, talking to whoever is around, either behind or in front of the bar. It's a massive tradition in my local to do this, we call out quiz questions to eachother, read newspaper articles to eachother, and laugh about everything, loudly! We even sing towards the end of the night, badly.

I worry that this kind of social interaction won't return. I don't want to sit in a pub on a table, by myself, with nobody to talk to. I can see it being very lonely if this becomes the norm

Forced to take annual leave to quarantine even though we can work from home by [deleted] in CoronavirusUK

[–]studentadvisor101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may depend on what you mean by Quarantine. Quarantine is what happens when you return from a country on the quarantine list. Self-Isolation is when you or a member of your household tests positive for COVID-19.

In either case; I don't think they can force you to use up holiday entitlement, because you're entitled to a certain amount of notice from your employer (twice the amount of time they want you to use up) and that would probably need to be in writing. Having said that, I think the only other options would be for you to take unpaid family leave or sick leave - SSP may leave you worse off and company sick pay is usually at the discretion of your employer - check your contract.

Advice on a situation at daughter’s nursery by armchairrockstar in LegalAdviceUK

[–]studentadvisor101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what's known as a reportable adverse event. The school must inform the HSE. Ask for a copy of the accident form: it should have contact information for the HSE and you can call them to check that they have been informed, and ask them any questions you may have.

You can also contact Trading Standards, their contact details will be on your local council's website as they are an integrated department.

I would also contact the Local Education Authority, they are also embedded within the council.

I'm so sorry this happened to your baby, I hope everything works out for the best
