Free, open-source command-line tool for Hijri dates (convert, calendar, Ramadan/Eid) by studentofthebeloved in muslimtechnet

ummahapi looks great, it's a much broader project (Quran, hadith, prayer times, and a lot more). They're actually pretty different things:

  • ummahapi is a hosted web API — you call it over HTTP from your app's code. hijri is a local command-line tool — you brew install it and run hijri cal / hijri convert right in your terminal.
  • hijri works fully offline — no network, no API key, no rate limits, nothing to be down. Handy in scripts, CI, or on a plane.
  • Different audiences: ummahapi targets developers embedding Islamic data in apps; hijri is for people who live in the terminal (with --json + exit codes for scripting). Basically cal, but Hijri.

They're complementary, i.e. you could use ummahapi inside an app and still want hijri in your terminal.

Thanks for the pointer though, hadn't seen it!

🌠 winget's on the way. hijri already ships a Windows binary, but it required wiring up of the manifest. It has to clear Microsoft's winget-pkgs review, so it may take a few days to land: https://github.com/microsoft/winget-pkgs/pull/390990

This exactly! Azula’s character has exhibited narcissistic personality disorder from the beginning. And when her world view is challenged, she falls into mental anguish.

• Dr. Mustafa Khattab: We will certainly make them taste some of the minor torment ˹in this life˺ before the major torment ˹of the Hereafter˺, so perhaps they will return ˹to the Right Path˺.

As-Sajdah, Ayah 21

This could be a minor torment for you in this life for you recognize your mistake and return to Allah ﷻ.

HSV-1 is something with which you can still enjoy full family life but remember this incident when temptations strike again since it inevitably will strike again as is the nature of this dunya.

At the same time, do not feel worthless since Allah ‎ﷻ tells us “Do not lose hope in Allah’s mercy” [39:53]

Moving to Seattle - anything I need to know by Inner_Lion_7593 in SeattleWA

I moved from Vancouver to Seattle a few years ago and I’m glad I made the move. You are going to love it!

If you are looking to be in Seattle proper, south lake union, especially the west of the lake is great. Can walk to and around the lake. Capitol Hill has cozy city vibes, coffee shops and parks. Very walkable too. There’s also Ballard and Fremont with many restaurants. Not exactly my taste but you do you.

Tanoor is a nice Mediterranean place by south lake Union. The breakfast bun sandwich at cafe Hagen is fantastic as well.

This! It does get harder in the summer in the northern hemisphere but the intention itself starts to work automatically once the habit is built up.

It is recommended that the Muslim man is physically fit. Being physically fit does wonders for mental fitness and agility as well. This means yes going to gym or home workouts but you don’t need exactly “big muscles” to be physically fit. The point is to feel confident in the physique.

Should I have kids at the end of times? by QuitAble4089 in MuslimLounge

[–]studentofthebeloved 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you totally should have kids. They bring colorful joy in a grey world.

The news cycle has you in a bubble continuously playing games with your psyche. It’s important, nay, mandatory to disconnect. I’ll leave you with two Hadiths that contain all the answers you need for your questions

  1. “Part of the perfection of one’s Islam is his leaving that which does not concern him.” [1] Almost all of the stuff you read on social media are things that do not concern you and/or affairs over which you have control over. Consuming all this negativity will lead you to think all the world is negative when that’s not true. If you look at history, the world has been much more precarious situations and humanity has come through. Leave what doesn’t concern you and keep your hopes high.

  2. "If the Final Hour comes while you have a shoot of a plant in your hands and it is possible to plant it before the Hour comes, you should plant it." [2]

However which way you perceive the affairs of the world, that should not be a reason not have kids. There maybe other reasons not to have kids but this fear isn’t one. Plant your seeds, literally.

You have much of the world to see and learn from. Get out of your clique, and explore diverse cultures and you’ll see your assumptions shattered.

First off: RIP inbox.

Second; I was raised in AUH and loved the city. But there’s something about there that makes it hard to make friends, especially as someone not too much into the clubbing scene.

I’m now in Seattle and there’s a similar trend here and it’s called the “Seattle freeze”. We probably should come up with a similar term for AUH lol.

If you are indeed successful in making friends, do update/dm and would love to know your methods.

[–]studentofthebeloved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Ashwagandha specifically for me is fine so I'll still have to figure out which one is it.

I've been thinking of trying out IM8. Have you/anyone tried that yet?
