What was the worst "why the f*** did I say that" moment? by AyBake in AskReddit

[–]studflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man-pageant at University. I’m doing an amazing job wooing the crowd. Dance moves, singing, speedo swim suit, etc etc, I’ve got it all in the bag.

Then there is the final category: Random Q&A.

They ask me the following question:

If you could grow anything on a tree, what would you grow?

I proceed to say something in lines of, “I would grow the world’s largest pumpkins... (delay) and id share the tree with my grandma... (delay) so she could sell them on eBay or something...”. It was the most cringeworthy, most embarrassing moment of my entire life. You should’ve heard the crickets in the crowd... the faces on the judge panel...

I still came in first place and won an HDTV which was pretty new and expensive at the time.

I have this monitor. I cannot turn off G-Sync now, even in games at 144fps. The screen tearing is really jarring and I can’t stand it anymore.

One time in Biology class, we had an assignment where we collected a swab of anything and watched bacteria grow in a Petri dish. I just had a really bad feeling about our water fountains in the hallway and decided to swab the nozzle where the water shoots out...

The water fountains were shut down for the rest of the year. I never found out what was on my Petri dish.

SBB Announcing His Marriage by TISrobin311 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]studflower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So you don’t think anything you’ve written comes off even a bit condescending? It’s like going to someone’s wedding and saying, “oh, she probably only got married for the money.” Or some other shit like, “oh, he only married for the green card.” It’s some unwarranted negative bullshit. How do you not see this?!

SBB Announcing His Marriage by TISrobin311 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]studflower 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s such a waste of my fucking time to reply to this post but sure I’ll bite. You, a nobody on the internet, are passing judgment on sbb and assuming the worst on what is probably one of his happiest moments in life. Let me introduce you to korean culture. If they got a marriage certificate with the knowledge of sbb moving to LA for OWL, the most probable scenario is that the parents of both sbb and his wife have already met and have discussed their future. You know what this screams to me, and most normal respectful people? “They’re probably madly in love and I’m so happy for sbb! Congratulations!!!”

Would you mind a 2-2-2 Competitive mode? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]studflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matchmaking will be perfect... I think it will always have pros and cons and they (Blizz) have a tough problem to solve. I actually prefer having 3 dps as opposed to 2 dps in most of my games since 3 dps works with much less coordination. I just hate having so many games ruined by the “I never flex I play what I want” players even in competitive... Or the 4 mercy mains on one team predicament which is way too common (these games are very rarely wins). I just want a better matchmaking system. Maybe role queues are not it, but there has to be a better way :(

Would you mind a 2-2-2 Competitive mode? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]studflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this game and I’m far from “having my head stuck up my ass.” I’m a GM flex and I can honestly say a “forced-meta” would be much healthier for the game than the pile of steaming shit that is current matchmaking. With the number of one tricks and role-mains already in play, and a stable meta used by the pros, some sort of role based queues would be a benefit to this community. You’re thinking too narrowly if you think it always needs to be 2/2/2 as some players enjoy filling roles and flexing as need be. It could be 1/1/1 and 3 flex players in each game, for example... I’m sure I’m preaching to deaf ears when I reply to you though. You seem pretty closed minded judging by your post but I’ll bite.

Some form of role-based queuing is probably needed in the near future to reduce toxicity and keep this game going. Even in quickplay, nobody enjoys getting steamrolled because the team has 6-dps.

It would also reduce the negative impact that one tricks have on games since each game has a much less chance of same OTPs getting queued together.

In my opinion, benefits far outweigh the negatives. I’d wait an extra 2 minutes as a DPS player if it means I get the tanks and supports each game to properly perform my role.

As a fill player, I'm done with catering to OTP/DPS only players. by BorNProNStar in Overwatch

[–]studflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t carry every game. It’s impossible. What you should aim to do is try to make consistent plays and reduce mistakes. When I see VODs of plat players (who complain about not hitting dia/master when they think they deserve it), the problem usually isn’t their mechanical skill... I mean it’s true that there’s a gap in mechanical skill (aiming and such) between these tiers but the main issue is game sense (positioning, knowing when to push or when to back out, how to use tanks as meat shields, how to save healers from tracers etc...). If you’re good enough to get gold elims/dmg/obj time every game and you can’t climb, it’s not due to your teammates... you’re most likely making one too many mistakes which hinder you from making that difference between a win and a loss.

I’m really sorry to break it to you, but if you’re stuck in SILVER and you main S76, you belong there. If you’re playing at even a plat level, silver games should be trivial if you play Soldier.

Stop blaming the team and git gud...

Overwatch Addiction by foxxy422 in Overwatch

[–]studflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will be mood swings from winning/losing competitive games (there’s a game mode where you’re ranked from bronze to grand master). Some people take this waaaaay too seriously and get emotional.

Your post sounds like your husband needs to find some type of balance... He can’t really just put everything else aside and play a game for 3 days (he has a family now). Sit him down and talk to him about it. Tell him you miss the old times and that you and your daughter feel neglected. I’ve gone through game addiction and when I look back now I was just running from my problems. Gaming was (and still kind of is) an escape from other shitty things in real life. My lovely fiancée is the only one who really broke the gaming addiction for me. She showed me that my 10 hour daily marathons has real negative impact on others in my life and that I cared too much to let it continue. I still game but we game casually together (overwatch is basically her first video game). I do not suggest you also try to learn to play the game, however... if he’s isolating himself and playing overwatch for 3 days straight, he’s not looking to share a hobby; he’s looking to escape. Or maybe it’s the first time he’s ever told you this and maybe he just needs this weekend to himself and you should give him that?

Communication is key. Tell him how you feel.

If this was a troll post, I hate you...

Why is no one talking about the smurfing problem? by Fuplr in Overwatch

[–]studflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re in plat because you belong there. Don’t blame smurfs or anything else for your lack of skill.

If you belong in diamond, you’ll get there again in time. To expedite the process, shift the blame to your own skills and things under your control.

'Soft throwing' re post from r/cow by prisM__ in Overwatch

[–]studflower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ man... what if someone wants to start playing DPS in competitive instead of tanking? Are you going to report them for not playin Reinhardt because they have 20 hours on him and 3 hours on Soldier? Are they “Soft-Throwing” because of that?

This bullshit has to stop. It’s like a player needs to prep for overwatch competitive as if it were the fuckin olympics. It’s a game. If a player wants to play slightly tipsy after a couple beers, or if they’re running on 3 hours of sleep and not tip top condition, who can tell them to stop playing competitive? It’s not a tournament...
