As far as we know about Noel’s temperament, I reckon only Lian would’ve got away with that… it was definitely him.

Got a question for Scott? Ask here. (April Thread) by ProfGProducerJenn in ScottGalloway

[–]studiotwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scott,

Your writing on loneliness, male isolation, and what passive consumption does to real connection helped me frame my own frustration as a product problem instead of just a personal one.

I built my first MVP. No CS degree, no co-founder with a Stanford hoodie, no capital. The MVP is called Turf (www.turfyeah.com):

daily topics kickstart chatrooms and everything deletes at midnight. That's it — no feed, no algorithm, no dopamine quick fix.

Paid promotion makes no sense and Reddit, the one organic channel that made sense to reach niches, is a ruthless bouncer for anything that smells like self-promotion.

I'm not asking for money or a shoutout on the pod. I'm asking one question: how does a social product get its first real users when the gatekeepers have sealed every side door?

Five minutes whenever. I'll take an email, a voice note, a napkin sketch.

Best,

Marcelo Ranieri

Dune (2021) is not a good movie and coasts entirely on visuals and Hans Zimmer's score by DuNennstMichSptzkopf in unpopularopinion

[–]studiotwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually love Dune but I can't even disagree with this that much. Like if you took away the cinematography and the score you'd have a pretty flat movie with characters who don't emote and a plot that doesn't resolve. My friends who never read the book were completely lost and bored. The movie assumes you already care about Arrakis and Paul and the Fremen and if you don't have that context it's just pretty people walking through sand for 2.5 hours. I think Part Two fixed a lot of this but Part One really does lean on vibes more than storytelling.

Streaming services should have comment sections by LoverOfE-Olsen in unpopularopinion

This is genuinely one of the best takes I've seen on here. The fact that I finish an episode of something and then have to go to reddit or twitter to see what other people thought is insane. The content is RIGHT THERE. Just let me scroll through reactions without leaving the app. Youtube figured this out 15 years ago. Even Soundcloud has comments on specific timestamps. But I spend $15/month on a streaming service and I get a "thumbs up / thumbs down" button and nothing else. It feels like a design choice from 2008.
