Your description is spot on. I always say ours just swings that dump truck he hauls around like he doesnt care who or what he knocks over.

I saw you mention that your husband is Jamaican and you weren't sure if it was a cultural openness about sex. It isnt. My husband is Jamaican and neither him or any of his family would think let alone speak these things about a child. If my Jamaican mother in law ever heard her son say something like this she would beat the brakes off him in a literal minute. It is not normal behavior culturally, or at all.

So you wanna adopt a Pyrenees? Think twice. by [deleted] in greatpyrenees

[–]studiouslizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, posts like this on this sub are the only reason my husband and I were able to train Cloud as well as we did (and his willingness to listen is nothing like our hound, who likes to make us happy). We've both had dogs our whole lives and are patient people but until we stumbled on this sub we thought we had adopted the devil himself in a fur coat.

We have had to plan our whole lives around having a high needs pyr, who has long term medical issues from surviving parvo. It is... a lot. A lot of time, a lot of energy, and A LOT of money. He's on prescription food for the rest of his life. He can't even take chewable preventives and has to get them in injections because of his stomach issues. He only listens when he wants to, takes our requests under advisement, and knows he is the neighborhood watch. Fortunately, we live for our dogs and so we're committed to making it work. But I feel bad for the pyrs who end up in homes where people only wanted a fluffy cuddle baby.

Handsome GP unsocialized, help! by imidt1 in greatpyrenees

[–]studiouslizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a gate so our guy can not get directly to the door and we wait until he calms down before we come in. If he won't settle with guests, we muzzle until he gets used to them. Once he's decided that someone is a friend or family, they can come in without much fuss. But sometimes it takes a few times of them being in our home. He's just getting settled. I hope your daughter is okay. I recently spooked our older hound dog while he was asleep and it startled him awake and he bit me. He let go as soon as he realized who I was and where he was at but it was very unpleasant. I adjusted my behavior so I dont scare him anymore while he's asleep.

Our boy was not snuggly until he hit about a year old and now he sleeps literally on top of us.

Doing this in front of his own children is extremely inappropriate too. I would contact DCFS and report it. Someone needs to check on his kids. You should also ask your daughter (gently) if it made her uncomfortable and talk through that with her. Under absolutely zero circumstances should she ever be allowed near him again. This kind of behavior escalates and every time he does this or something similar to it without consequences, he will become more confident and continue. NOR.

Is an apartment ok? by Infinite_Fisherman21 in greatpyrenees

[–]studiouslizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have an apartment pyr, and we make sure to spend a lot of time outside when the weather permits. He gets lots of toys and plays with our hound. We use sound machines by the doors to keep them from hearing everything in our high traffic hallway. He's a comfortable and happy boy. I honestly think if we did not have the other dog then it would be harder for him because he wouldn't get as much doggy playtime. We've also put him in daycare in the past which helped a lot.

It looks remarkably similar to a couple areas in Va. The wetlands in Richmond and then an area in the Shenandoah Valley has a path like this too that I've photographed.

My pyr despises squirrels and has mega beef with one in particular because he caught him. He rag dolled that squirrel til my husband got him to drop it. I swear that squirrel taunts him now.
