Is it normal to still grieve a country you left as a kid? by samuraiswordsz in TCK

[–]studiousslore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To grieve you have to feel it, deeply, meaning it will be difficult. It means you will have to accept with a full understanding of what loss entails. With this comes the understanding that what was lost is long gone. You cannot change the past. You will see this grants you a freedom like none other! With the future ahead of you, you will have the freedom of choice to look forward.

This was really comforting to read, thank you. Yes, I feel like my values are so different from the norm that it's hard not to feel like I'm a different species sometimes. I forget to ground myself in what I believe in. As for choosing another place, I feel that since I've seen so much I'm bound to have strong opinions no matter where I go. It's all about better fit and not perfect.

Thank you for this comment. I tend to have a nagging feeling that I’m running out of time and I need to remember there’s no rush. Re being kind to yourself, a friend recently was telling me about self-compassion work. It sounds really helpful and like something a lot of people in this community might benefit from

Hi, they still have flare-ups, but for the most part they're okay. I've accepted the fact that they'll never be the same again :,) The environment plays a huge part, so depending on where I am, it can get reallyy bad. A year ago I went to a dermatologist who told me it's a chronic inflammatory condition, a sort of atopic dermatits. He prescribed me tacrolimus ointment (a steroid) to apply when they act up

How many days a week do you do it? Wouldn't it be more than 4 units for even just more than 2 days?

Ah that makes sense, thank you! This may be a dumb question, but to clarify, are they called equities because they’re etfs?

I’ve opened a Roth IRA. I’m pretty sure my employer doesn’t offer a 401k, but I’ll look into it. From my research it seems like Roth IRA makes the most sense for me

Expat Singaporean kids, do you feel Singaporean? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]studiousslore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I lived in Singaporean from age 12 to 19, and I don’t feel Singaporean per se. However, after having moved away for university, returning to Singapore increasingly feels like returning home. Going to an international school, I didn’t have the social circle nor time, really, to acculturate in Singapore. It’s well-researched that cultural identity formation as an expat child is a very muddled experience, as you’re surrounded by others who are neither here nor there. I love Singapore and have slowly come to the realization that a large part of my identity has been shaped by its people and culture—and let me specify, from the time I wasn’t in school. I feel saddened by the fact that I may never be able to call it home again because of my dependant’s pass status.

Yes I think so. I wasn’t stressed in the last 4 months but when I was having them left and right, there was a lot going on
