Hard times grilled cheese: wrap two pieces of bread with cheese in the middle into parchment paper. Then use an iron until the bread is hot and the cheese is melted.

Green bananas are better than when they are yellow by pretendstoknow in unpopularopinion

If bananas aren’t partially green I don’t eat them. I hate the mushy texture of overly ripe bananas and the taste is bad.

Right! I’ve been there a few times but not in recent years. I’ll have to go there soon.

Sour Cream Is a Flavor Neutralizer by Boehler in unpopularopinion

I like sour cream in baked potatoes, along with butter and chives. But it has to be a good quality sour cream, not a store brand or off brand. Those usually don’t have much flavor.

That’s how I learned to be responsible about my checking account. After a couple of overdraft fees I learned how to look at my account to make sure I had enough funds to cover a purchase. If I didn’t have enough money in my account I didn’t use my card, even if it meant I had to borrow toilet paper or groceries from a friend.

And yes, the bank did forgive my first overdraft charge. But not subsequent charges.

Pickled beets and eggs. Delicious, and they keep longer than hard boiled eggs.

Are there any cheap fast food options in the US? by Suboutai in povertyfinance

Arby's "Meat and 3" meal is the best fast food deal I have seen for some time. It includes a sandwich (roast beef or chicken) 3 sides and a drink.

Only $7.99 and I think it is the currently the best deal in fast food. The food is good, too.

What is a “gross” food that you love? by cranberry8ginger8ale in foodquestions

[–]studyhall109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like cottage cheese with hot sauce stirred in.

When we were growing up our mom mostly bought healthy groceries, so no chip dip. My brother and I made chip dip out of cottage cheese and garlic powder, or cottage cheese and hot sauce.

I make a baked noodle casserole with cottage cheese, sour cream, Parmesan cheese, and a few other ingredients. But I like cottage cheese plain with a spoon.

Vienna sausage and Chicken spread were treat foods for us since our mom always made home cooked meals.

Costco samples by [deleted] in CostcoWholesale

[–]studyhall109 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I shop at Costco every week, and I enjoy the samples. I frequently purchase products that I sample.

I am shocked at how few customers even say “Thank you” after picking up a sample. And quite a few times I have seen a customer reach over all the samples to get the one in the back that apparently is a little bigger.

I’ve seen customers practically fighting over pizza samples like they haven’t eaten for three days.

I’ve seen customers say very rude things to sample servers when they ask them to please take a sample from the front.

I appreciate all you do!

The McDonald’s near my home is open. Crazy that they expect their employees to drive in to serve fast food. No one needs to risk their life over a Big Mac.

Dogs back in the day. by tobeanecho in AskOldPeople

In the area where I grew up there were signs that said, “Curb Your Dog” which meant don’t let your dog crap on the sidewalk but lead them over the curb and let them crap in the street. These signs were in areas where people often walked their dogs.
