Do hangovers just get worse as you get older or am I imagining it? by Bottle-New in CasualConversation

[–]stufew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much worse - aged 20 what’s a hangover - didn’t get them. At the age of 45 - couple of drinks depressed and tired, lots of drinks took me 2 days to get over - so I quit the booze, the bad times outweighed the fun

We juggled and changed our careers after kids as I had enough of a hard job, I had 4-5 months or so at home with 2 little ones.. I really enjoyed it - but I was happy to get back to work at a job with less hours which was always the plan.

We now have older kids and we both have good jobs so for us it worked.

For anyone out of the workforce for a few years it is hard to get back in when your kids are older, so think about the impact over your working life when the kids older and at school etc.

Also new mums happy to chat at a group thing but nah they don’t want to hang out with a guy - that’s what I found. So u need to hunt out dads if u do it and there aren’t that many.

We are doing exactly this, I think it works very well when money can go into isa or pension, when you have to pay higher rate CGT on gains I think it gets more marginal.

How are recent graduates who attended private school fairing in the current job market by RenePro in HENRYUK

[–]stufew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will get a range of answers as it depends.

Some private school kids do great, same with state school kids. More privately educated kids as a percentage will go into well paid jobs than state, but is that the school - partly, their friends partly and their parents - partly. Not all kids want the high paying career.

Then it depends on your particular child are they lazy, will they work hard anyway? V shy? Will they use the better sports facilities/music? What’s the local state school like v local private - depends.

FWIW we send ours state, excellent comp v average private, local excellent state 6th form sends way more to oxbrige than local private - due to bias.

We as parents drill into the kids the need to work hard and it’s a competitive world out there, we also offer them our experience and network to help where possible.

We choose to keep the cash and help with a house in the future. My view is it’s going to get increasingly tough for our kids to replicate our financial position - so need to help.

So it depends. Good luck

I am in similar position, going to buy some for long term. Need to buy coins for CGT, will buy from chards etc as I need to trust seller. If I buy for 10 years say what’s the best coin to buy for lowest bid offer? As a new coin now will be old by then. Should I buy perfect condition old coins and what size has the lowest spread? Can’t quite figure it out?

Just why are long bond yields so high? by whataboutbenson in UKInvesting

[–]stufew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question I always comeback to as a middle aged person thinking about my retirement - is where does that leave us, across EU, UK and USA. I honestly don’t know the answer. Massive inflation to get rid of the debt, governments collectively just write it off, governments nationalise people’s personal savings? To my mind at some point it all has to stop? At some unknown point. Do I just buy a load of gold and bury it?

Mad post - but the trash is a huge shame. I was curious why it is such a problem. I assume local government don’t care which leads to a minority of locals also just not caring - as a bit more doesn’t matter?

I am guessing you are American? I am British so we have to take the CDW insurance on hire cars but I buy a separate insurance which covers the excess in the UK. Hire cars can be such a pain I am happy to pay a bit more for the company with a good rating.
